Daniel James Jr. was born in 1920 in Pensacola, Florida and dreamed of becoming a pilot from a young age. He attended flight school and fought in World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam War, becoming the first black general in 1971. Though he died at the young age of 68 in 1975, Daniel James Jr. overcame obstacles through determination and helped change history and shape perceptions as a hero and role model.
