The Grave of the Fireflies tells the story of a kind brother caring for his sister in Hiroshima after it was bombed by an atomic weapon at the end of WWII. Pearl Harbor depicts two best friends, one of whom dies in the war while the other comforts his grieving girlfriend, who he later falls in love with. Letters from Iwo Jima shows a Japanese officer defending the island of Iwo Jima, knowing they had little chance of winning but feeling a duty to resist the American forces for as long as possible.
