Henry Hudson was an English explorer born in 1565 who led several expeditions trying to find the Northwest Passage for England and the Dutch East India Company. Though his early attempts were halted by freezing weather and near-mutiny, he did discover important geographic areas including Hudson Bay in Canada, Hudson Strait, and the Hudson River. However, on his final voyage in 1611, Hudson and several others were abandoned by mutineers and their fate remains unknown.
This document outlines the basic decision-making process which includes identifying the problem, gathering information, analyzing alternatives, choosing an alternative, implementing it, and following up. It notes that the amount of information gathered should depend on the potential consequences. When making a decision, it's important to consider if it addresses the underlying cause, may set precedent, and could adversely affect other operations. Every decision involves some risk and uncertainty, so analyzing alternatives aims to reduce that. The "no-decision option" of consciously deciding not to decide or ignoring the situation can have major consequences. Any decisions must fall within one's scope of authority.
The document discusses Medicaid planning for singles to pay for nursing home costs, which average $7-9,000 per month. It provides two planning examples: 1) A single client with $250,000 creates an irrevocable trust, gifts $220,000 to it, and receives monthly income to cover expenses. 2) A single client admitted to a nursing home with $75,000 does planning to protect $37,500 in a trust and annuity to cover a five month Medicaid ineligibility period before qualifying. Both techniques allow funds to cover non-medical costs and preserve assets for heirs.
Mary Ford sent an email to Hector Fuentes opposing Governor Gainor's plan to privatize the state DMV's information systems management. Ford claims privatization would lead to age discrimination against experienced employees and violate the Pendleton Act of 1883. She argues the union should challenge the plan and that Fuentes would gain union members' votes by opposing it. However, Ford provides little credible evidence and makes assumptions without considering other causes for the governor's plan. Her arguments contain logical fallacies and rely more on personal experience than facts.
This document discusses the challenges facing mobile networks from increasing data usage and new applications. Smartphones and apps are driving more data consumption, which could reduce mobile revenues if voice and messaging apps allow free use of these services. Deploying 4G LTE networks requires additional spectrum, fiber backhaul to support high speeds, and new infrastructure like small cells. Offloading data to fixed networks can help financially but requires cooperation. Preparing for early LTE deployment may be needed to manage these challenges to the mobile business model.

This document discusses Medicaid planning for couples to manage the high costs of nursing home care, which average $7-9,000 per month. It provides examples of planning techniques like converting joint trusts to single trusts for the surviving spouse to qualify for Medicaid immediately. Another example involves gifting assets to an irrevocable trust to receive income and qualify the spouse for Medicaid within 5 years. A final example uses a sole benefit trust to protect all investments rather than half to qualify the spouse. The document is presented by an attorney to educate about Medicaid eligibility and planning options.

The document argues that 360-degree feedback works best with a clear purpose, proper training, stakeholder inclusion, and repeated implementation without overlap.
This document discusses thinking outside the box and creative thinking. It suggests that the box, which represents conformity and limitation, is made up of six sides: limiting assumptions, addiction to the status quo, hyper-rationality, tunnel vision, intolerance for ambiguity, and no intrinsic motivation. It encourages the reader to identify which side most limits their thinking and commit to an action to go beyond that limitation when working on their most inspiring new idea or project. The document provides quotes and questions to help motivate creative thinking and getting ideas started.
The document summarizes the foreclosure process. It begins with a notice of default being recorded with the county recorder if the homeowner misses payments. Then a notice of trustee sale is filed after 90 days if the default is not cured. The property is then auctioned and sold to the highest bidder, or reverted to the lender. A short sale is presented as an alternative that can avoid foreclosure and is beneficial to all parties involved. The document promotes services to help homeowners in default or facing foreclosure.

Detlef La Grand discusses how virtual reality can make healthcare training more engaging and effective by allowing trainees to experience scenarios in an immersive virtual environment. VR allows users to learn through doing and understand concepts better than traditional methods. VR training brings real-world practice into the classroom and allows testing knowledge anywhere. It can also help develop empathy by experiencing healthcare situations from others' perspectives. VRmaster's platform enables creating sharable and updatable VR content for healthcare education and assessment without requiring downloads.

Virtual reality (VR) is an emerging technology with a fragmented market. In the Dutch VR industry, the most active segments are entertainment, marketing and promotion, and education and training. The document identifies these two segments as most interesting for further analysis. For marketing, VR allows immersive product demonstrations that engage consumers when traditional products are expensive, unique, immobile, or their dimensions are important. For training, VR can safely simulate dangerous environments and offers customizable training at a lower cost than traditional methods. However, both segments currently face challenges such as high production costs, limited consumer adoption of VR devices, and technical limitations of VR videos.
