Masthead
The masthead from the front cover is present
on the contents page in the same font style
and colours in order to create a brand that the
Target Audience can recognise easily. It also
sets the tone as a modern and edgy magazine
due to its bright colours of red and white, big
and bold style and “clean cut” uncluttered
design.
Image
The image show a young woman pointing at a
tour bus. This links in with the magazine as
this edition is a “Touring Special”. This also
goes against the stereotype that this type of
magazine is for a male audience as they
included a woman (probably the editor of the
magazine) as the first image in the magazine,
showing that this magazine is for both males
and females.

The date is featured below the “ NME
Contents” title. it has been placed there so that
is can be easily seen if the Target Audience is
looking for a particular issue. It is also a lot
smaller and less bold than the rest of the text
on the contents page so that that the Target
Audience will focus on more important parts of
the magazine such as the editors letter and
articles.
Articles (with Page Numbers)
The articles in the magazine are clearly marked
with the page numbers so that members of the
target audience who are interested in certain
articles and find those articles easily on the
contests page without having to look though
the whole magazine to find the article they
want to read. The articles are divided into
different sections (NEWS, REVIEWS, FEATURE)
to make it even easier for the target audience
to find the articles they are interested in.

Editors Letter
The editors letter gives a reader an insight
into the editors thoughts. They usually
involve rhetorical questions and witty
comments and jokes (the editors and Rock
Sound and KERRANG! do this a lot). On this
particular contents page, the editor uses a
rhetorical to evoke a thought process within
the Target Audience (“Thank god the sun
has disappeared, eh?). The editor also used
informal language such as “eh”. This shows
that the target audience is a younger age
group but not children as the magazine
includes older musical acts such as Gallows
and Pavement.

Rule of Thirds
Rule of Thirds has been used to focus the
Target Audience attention. The main focus
points lie on the main photo and the editors
letter, these are right in the middle of the
contents page and will be the first thing that
the target audience will notice and read. As
the editors letter references articles in the
magazine, the target audience is more likely
to read those articles if they read about them
first in the editors letter.
