BODY IN MOTION
To understand balance in motion, imagine a perpendicular line passing through the dip of the neck. The
body weight should be balanced equally on both sides of this line. Suppose a woman is standing on one leg,
and the body is still, you will find that the body volume is equally distributed on both sides of the line. If the
volume is unevenly distributed, the body is in motion in the direction where the volume is greater.

DRAWING STICK FIGURES
One of the easiest methods for making a quick observation of a figure is stick figure. As children , most of us
have drawn men & women using simple lines. With the knowledge of human anatomy, you must now draw
them in proportion and balanced.
Drawing of stick figures includes the following stages.
Finally flesh out the stick figures as shown in Plate 29. Stick figures can be used in creating any composition
very easily and fast.
A study of the skeletal structure and observation of people will give you an understanding of where the joints
are placed in the human body. Reduce the body to a skeleton and visualise the principal structures, namely,
line of shoulders, line of waist, line of hip and line of the limbs.
Plate 29 shows stick figures in various poses of action.

To be able to draw well from observation or memory, practice quick sketches of interesting poses you see .
Keep a notepad handy, where you can jot down quick drawings of poses, which interests you.
Try to observe some scenes outdoors and sketch stick figures of people in motion. Plate 30 & 31 show how
stick figures have been converted into actual drawings.
Note : The points at which the body bends, are the points which divided the body into three equals parts
