1. FINAL ASSESSMENT REPORT
Basedon Dimensionsof ReflectiveLearningby KarenBarnstable (2009),now I will reflectonmy
primarylevel practicumperiod.
Thinking back
Firstof all,Iwouldlike topointoutthat I alsolearneda lotduringthisperiodas the group age,
Englishlevel,issues,contentsandmethodologywascompletelydifferentfromthe kindergarten
level.
Second,Irealizedthatduringthe three lessons,Iwasable toimprove alot my classroom
managementstrategiesandtiming.Takingintoaccountthe EnglishteacheradvisesandwhatI
have learnedduringthese years, itwasnotsocomplicatedtoprepare the lessonsandcarry them
out. Students’reactiontomyactivitiesandmaterialshelpedme alotto expandmyimaginationin
orderto designmotivatinglessons.Furthermore,thiswasafruitful periodasI improvedmyability
to create a meaningful contextforthe activitiesIincludedinmylessonplans.
Finally,asitwasthe secondpracticumperiod,Ifeltmore relaxedandIwasable to enjoythe
lessonsevenmore thanduringkindergarten.
Thinking forward
If I hadthe chance to developthispractice again,I wouldlike tospendmore lessonswiththe
groupas three lessonswerenotenoughtoworkwithsome skillsasreadingorincluding more
literature.WhenIreadthema story,theylikedita lot.
Primarylevel,oratleast5th
grade,isverydemandingbecause of the amountof studentsandtheir
needs.Theyall wanttoparticipate, theyall wantthe teacherto checktheiractivities andthey
cannot stayat theirdesksif theyare notbusywithsome encouragingactivity.Regardingthislast
item,Iwouldlike toinclude activitieswhere studentshave tomove inside the classroom in
anotheropportunity.Forexample,studentsstanduptocomplete theirtaskslookingfor
informationindifferentspotsinthe classroom.
Thinking inward
WhenI noticedhowdemandingthisgroupwas,IrealizedthatIwouldhave tobe preparedfor
them:all materialsshouldbe readybythe time Iwantedto use them, forexample.
As I hada problemwithmycameraduringthe firstlesson,Iwasa little nervousaboutitduringthe
secondandthird lessonasI knewthatit wasnot possible thathappenagain.
Regardingmyownperformance, Iam very satisfied.Of course,if I were able tospendmore time
workinginthislevel Iwouldbe able toknow more aboutthe group andimprove mylessons.
2. Thinking outward
A weekagoI sawthe Englishteacherandshe toldme that herstudentsmissedme.Onthe one
hand,I knowthat youngchildrenlove changes, evenmore if theirpreviousteacherisstill there
duringthe change. On the otherhand,I realizedthatwe all spenta goodtime together, andwe all
learnta lot.The Englishteacherwasreallyhappywiththe lessonsandmaterialsthatIdeveloped
for herstudents.
I considerthatI learnta lot duringthislevel because mytutormade me a lot of suggestions to
improve mylesson.Ibelieve thatIwasable to change a lot of the requiredaspectsbutI needto
take themintoaccount infuture lessonplans until Iinternalizethe use of them(orderingactivities
inthe correct way,settingameaningful contextandscaffoldingthe activities.)
In conclusion,Ibelievethatthiswasa verydemandinglevel inall the aspectsinvolved:time,
lessondesigningandlessondevelopment. However,Ilearntalot, and I wasable to use all that
knowledge inthe nextpracticumperiod,too.
