Final Reflection
Secondary Practicum Period
THINKING BACK
The original aim of this experience was to prove my teaching practice into the secondary
level, in order to apply the recently learned teaching strategies and new methodology into a
group of teenagers. Personally, I expected to improve every day and find new attractive
resources for teenagers, motivating to continue learning.
The objectives, activities, and use of resources were coherent and positive. The fact that I had
learned different teaching strategies allowed me to work comfortable and secure. So I
consider that all the materials, resources and strategies planned in lessons were coherent and
connected between each other with a specific purpose. Every class was developed using the
communicative approach, and in every one, I did my best to make of my classes interesting
ones, and make my students follow them without problems.
From my point of view, when a lesson plan has a variety of resources such as texts, videos,
songs, pictures, games that are related with the topic are usually relevant for students because
they give them the opportunity to participate actively sharing what they know. So the use of
different materials is really positive and rich for students.
During every lesson, I applied my knowledge about the cognitive stage of development
teenagers are passing through (Formal Operational) in order to know how they could react,
their attitudes and behavior into a class, and always try to be sensitive to adapt the class
according to their necessities or what they interested. On the other hand and related to
motivational aspects in teenagers it is really important develop different lessons which they
could find interesting, and which include topics they could feel close to their environment
and lives. Thus, I took the topic from the book (movies with Passive Voice) but all the
material that I shared with them was totally different to from the book. The videos, poster,
games and all the resources are were different, so not only they learned, but also they enjoyed
every class, and I could realize because of the way in which they developed the activities and
participate in every game proposed. However, taking into account the comments for
improvement the tutor gave me, I could have performed some of the classes better, by
combining different expressions that they know, for example using more Present Perfect and
not expressed only using Simple Past. When the classes go by I could change it, and feel
secure at the moment to express or explain using an appropriate vocabulary and structures.
This experience was amazing. I learned a lot from them and I could realize that they need
feel they are an active part of the class. The attention is essential for them, not only from the
teacher but also from their peers as they are developing a sense of belonging to definite
groups. Also, I understood that I have to be patient with them, their mood changes constantly
and sometimes they react in a way or make comments to call attention. So it is important be
flexible and adaptable to unexpected situations keeping the respect in every situation. Last
but not least their opinion and attitude in front of every class is essential to know what they
like or not, to plan future lessons and know if I, as a teacher, am doing the correct and they
are learning successfully. Thus all the pedagogical tools are to be followed for a specific
reason; that developing a detailed outline of the lesson gives me the scaffolding my students.
THINKING FORWARD
If I had the chance to develop this project/practice again I would change my transitions
expressions and the structures used to communicate with them. In many occasions, I realized
that all the time I used the same structure, so them then I could change it and use another
structures such as Present Perfect. Also, I would change the use of technology, it means, in
the first class I had to use the computer to show them a Prezi with different movies and a
short trailer, this would have been more interesting if I had showed that with projector, but in
that moment it was busywas not available. In spite of these and knowing that I have to
practice practisepractice my vocabulary and structures at the moment of speaking, I feel
happy to for my classes and experience in this level.
As I repeated several times, I feel good and confident about my performance in this level and
luckily this course has provided me with the teaching strategies and notions of approaches I
need to plan in a complete way. Also, this course motivated me to search in the net for new
material and try to innovate at the moment of developing my lesson.
THINKING INWARD
This project was really important because it helped me to face my fears. I have never been in
this level, and I have to recognize that it was really hard planned the lessons lessons because
I wanted that they were complete, straightforward and at the same time interesting for
students. However when I received my feedbacks I felt more confident about my
performance, and here it is important remark by applying different strategies and by planning
lessons carefully I obtained better results and thus my students could benefit.
In addition, I think that not only the experience in this level was successful for me as teacher
but also I learned many new things and ways of improving my teaching practice and
confidence in this level who scared me. In addition to I think that learners took advantage of
every single class, and this I realized when they made a self – assignment, they could solve on
time and without any problem.
All in all, I am totally satisfied with the way in which I developed this practice, the support
that I received from the tutor during the whole practice period and from the headteacher was
really important and helped me to afford this as the best way. Comentado [A1]: I`m so glad to know it has been an enriching

Final Reflection on Secondary Practicum Experience

  • 1. Final Reflection Secondary Practicum Period THINKING BACK The original aim of this experience was to prove my teaching practice into the secondary level, in order to apply the recently learned teaching strategies and new methodology into a group of teenagers. Personally, I expected to improve every day and find new attractive resources for teenagers, motivating to continue learning. The objectives, activities, and use of resources were coherent and positive. The fact that I had learned different teaching strategies allowed me to work comfortable and secure. So I consider that all the materials, resources and strategies planned in lessons were coherent and connected between each other with a specific purpose. Every class was developed using the communicative approach, and in every one, I did my best to make of my classes interesting ones, and make my students follow them without problems. From my point of view, when a lesson plan has a variety of resources such as texts, videos, songs, pictures, games that are related with the topic are usually relevant for students because they give them the opportunity to participate actively sharing what they know. So the use of different materials is really positive and rich for students. During every lesson, I applied my knowledge about the cognitive stage of development teenagers are passing through (Formal Operational) in order to know how they could react, their attitudes and behavior into a class, and always try to be sensitive to adapt the class according to their necessities or what they interested. On the other hand and related to motivational aspects in teenagers it is really important develop different lessons which they could find interesting, and which include topics they could feel close to their environment and lives. Thus, I took the topic from the book (movies with Passive Voice) but all the material that I shared with them was totally different to from the book. The videos, poster, games and all the resources are were different, so not only they learned, but also they enjoyed every class, and I could realize because of the way in which they developed the activities and participate in every game proposed. However, taking into account the comments for improvement the tutor gave me, I could have performed some of the classes better, by combining different expressions that they know, for example using more Present Perfect and not expressed only using Simple Past. When the classes go by I could change it, and feel secure at the moment to express or explain using an appropriate vocabulary and structures. This experience was amazing. I learned a lot from them and I could realize that they need feel they are an active part of the class. The attention is essential for them, not only from the
  • 2. teacher but also from their peers as they are developing a sense of belonging to definite groups. Also, I understood that I have to be patient with them, their mood changes constantly and sometimes they react in a way or make comments to call attention. So it is important be flexible and adaptable to unexpected situations keeping the respect in every situation. Last but not least their opinion and attitude in front of every class is essential to know what they like or not, to plan future lessons and know if I, as a teacher, am doing the correct and they are learning successfully. Thus all the pedagogical tools are to be followed for a specific reason; that developing a detailed outline of the lesson gives me the scaffolding my students. THINKING FORWARD If I had the chance to develop this project/practice again I would change my transitions expressions and the structures used to communicate with them. In many occasions, I realized that all the time I used the same structure, so them then I could change it and use another structures such as Present Perfect. Also, I would change the use of technology, it means, in the first class I had to use the computer to show them a Prezi with different movies and a short trailer, this would have been more interesting if I had showed that with projector, but in that moment it was busywas not available. In spite of these and knowing that I have to practice practisepractice my vocabulary and structures at the moment of speaking, I feel happy to for my classes and experience in this level. As I repeated several times, I feel good and confident about my performance in this level and luckily this course has provided me with the teaching strategies and notions of approaches I need to plan in a complete way. Also, this course motivated me to search in the net for new material and try to innovate at the moment of developing my lesson. THINKING INWARD This project was really important because it helped me to face my fears. I have never been in this level, and I have to recognize that it was really hard planned the lessons lessons because I wanted that they were complete, straightforward and at the same time interesting for students. However when I received my feedbacks I felt more confident about my performance, and here it is important remark by applying different strategies and by planning lessons carefully I obtained better results and thus my students could benefit. In addition, I think that not only the experience in this level was successful for me as teacher but also I learned many new things and ways of improving my teaching practice and confidence in this level who scared me. In addition to I think that learners took advantage of every single class, and this I realized when they made a self – assignment, they could solve on time and without any problem. All in all, I am totally satisfied with the way in which I developed this practice, the support that I received from the tutor during the whole practice period and from the headteacher was really important and helped me to afford this as the best way.
