The document provides answers to four frequently asked questions about PVDTN, an integrated voice, fax, and data network solution.
1. It explains how PVDTN saves costs by replacing traditional telephony networks with a circuit-switched voice/fax network and separate IP data network over the same leased lines. This reduces total communication costs compared to maintaining separate voice and data networks.
2. PVDTN maintains separate networks that are managed independently, so existing teams can continue their roles without conflict.
3. PVDTN is more bandwidth efficient than VOIP alone and ensures sufficient bandwidth to avoid call blocking or quality issues, further reducing costs compared to VOIP implementations.

- How traditional fax machines work by scanning documents and transmitting them as electrical signals over phone lines.
- Modern faxing can be done via fax/modem software and online, but documents must be converted to text to edit.
- Fuzzy logic washing machines use sensors to monitor conditions and adjust operations like water temperature and spin speed to optimize cleaning based on load size and material instead of a fixed cycle.
- A block diagram shows the fuzzy logic controller receiving inputs from sensors and adjusting washing parameters as outputs to improve efficiency.

SECURITY AND REDUNDANCY OF THE
FAX PLATFORM
Security for fax transmissions is ofthe highest priority for
fax users as faxes oftencontain confidentialand sensitive
information. With this in mind, our Company developed
the fax system with thehighest levelofsecurity possible.
All faxes are sentto our systemover a phone/fax line in the
same way thata standardfax is received via a phoneline.
All faxes are encrypted with a standard fax encryption.
Once a fax arrives at the fax server it is protected from
outside hackers by a high-end firewall blocking intruders
and hackers from accessing the system. This firewall also
prevents potential viruses from entering the system. Our
fax servers also employ Network Address Translation
adding an extra level ofsecurity.
The security level is of such a nature that the
administrators ofthe Fax2Email systemcannotevenview
the content of these faxes. The fax system is backedup
daily with a structured “fallback” and “rollback” planfor
recovery. Special considerations have been made on
system fault resolution to ensure that completed
successful fax receptions are delivered to its appropriate
destination. Servers arestored in a controlledenvironment
with respect totemperature, humidity,power fluctuations
and outages, etc.
The Fax2Email servers are all connected with a shared
database infrastructure. This means if one server goes
down, the others keep ongoing where theprevious server
left off, thus having a guarantee ofno faxes getting lost.
All Internetfax transmissions from faxserver to fax server
on the fax network are encrypted with 128 bit Secure
Socket Layer (SSL) across the globe. Additionally, our
Company utilizes a proprietary protocol for the passing of
faxes across the network. SSL, in combination with
proprietary protocol, ensures an unmatched secure
transmission of faxes over the Internet. Users of our
system can rightfully feel that their faxes aresecure over
the fax network.

Our IVR infrastructure encompasses an Internet Service Provider,
which allows for callers’ informationto be stored to databases. This

We have customizedour IVR applications

9. DIRECT CONNECT (DICON)
WHAT IS DICON?
______________________________________
A dicon is when we convert your Telkom issued
number into a revenue generating number by
issuing you with an 086 number without any
hardware changes. The new number can be
used instantly, and there will be no need to
change this number should the nomal Telkom
number change; we can simply re-route the
number at any given time.
_______________________________________________________
____
Typical applications which NGN Telecoms
would like to implement include:
Fax-to-email
Call centres
DICON - (derivedfromthe term “direct connect”) - is a revenue
sharing telephone number (086, 082 or 083) that can be
directed to an existing (non-revenue sharing) Telkom
telephone number.
For example, many call centres still use normal Telkom
telephone numbers e.g. the 20Twentycall centre inCape Town
is normally reached on 021 481 8200.
A dicon couldbe assignedsothat a caller coulddial either the
revenue sharingdicon number (086,082 or 083) or the Telkom
(021) number.
Both calls will be answered by the call centre in exactly the
same manner, nothing extra is needed for this operation.
In essence, we are just calling the call centre by a different
“name” (in this case either 021 or 086).
The call centre will answer calls to 021 or the new 086 dicon
number.
From a revenue perspective, both NGN Telecoms and the
client (where the dicon is routed to) will benefit if this client
advertises the revenue share number AND callers phone the
revenue share number.
