SECURITY AND REDUNDANCY OF THE
FAX PLATFORM
Security for fax transmissions is ofthe highest priority for
fax users as faxes oftencontain confidentialand sensitive
information. With this in mind, our Company developed
the fax system with thehighest levelofsecurity possible.
All faxes are sentto our systemover a phone/fax line in the
same way thata standardfax is received via a phoneline.
All faxes are encrypted with a standard fax encryption.
Once a fax arrives at the fax server it is protected from
outside hackers by a high-end firewall blocking intruders
and hackers from accessing the system. This firewall also
prevents potential viruses from entering the system. Our
fax servers also employ Network Address Translation
adding an extra level ofsecurity.
The security level is of such a nature that the
administrators ofthe Fax2Email systemcannotevenview
the content of these faxes. The fax system is backedup
daily with a structured “fallback” and “rollback” planfor
recovery. Special considerations have been made on
system fault resolution to ensure that completed
successful fax receptions are delivered to its appropriate
destination. Servers arestored in a controlledenvironment
with respect totemperature, humidity,power fluctuations
and outages, etc.
The Fax2Email servers are all connected with a shared
database infrastructure. This means if one server goes
down, the others keep ongoing where theprevious server
left off, thus having a guarantee ofno faxes getting lost.
All Internetfax transmissions from faxserver to fax server
on the fax network are encrypted with 128 bit Secure
Socket Layer (SSL) across the globe. Additionally, our
Company utilizes a proprietary protocol for the passing of
faxes across the network. SSL, in combination with
proprietary protocol, ensures an unmatched secure
transmission of faxes over the Internet. Users of our
system can rightfully feel that their faxes aresecure over
the fax network.

INTERACTIVE VOICE RESPONSE
(IVR)
WHAT IS IVR?
______________________________________
Interactive Voice Response (IVR) is an
automated, interactive call-handling system.
NGN Telecoms owns and operates the largest,
independent IVR Platform in the Value Added
Industry.
Designed especially with business services and
mass media in mind, our IVR Platform can
handle large volumes of incoming calls.
____________________________________________________
ADVANTAGES OF USING IVR
The IVR solution can be used in conjunction with all telephone
networks and PABX switches.
Our IVR Solution will also assist you in your service delivery to your
clients, i.e.:
 Your services becomeavailable24hours a day, 7 days a week
 Screening customers’ needs, and routing them to the
appropriatechannel,i.e. either to an automated voiceresponse
or to an operator.
 Reducing queues ofcalls, by dealing with simpler queries via
pre-recordedvoiceandfreeing up your operators to dealwith
more complicated queries.
SERVICES
Using our IVR Platform,NGN Telecoms has deployedIVR applications
specifically designed for Radio and Television Promotions.
These include:
Live Call Management
This allows for 480 calls tobe acceptedsimultaneously, however, only
a predeterminedamountofcalls will be diverted to the studioat one
time. This prevents congestion and allows for callers to be offered
other services and functionality while holding for the studio.
Text-to-speech
Enables the IVR to synthesize and “read” text to the caller.
Dynamic Menu’s
This allows you, the client, to change menu options on the IVR
Application without additional programming changes.
Automatic Sound Clip Uploads
Sound clips can be automatically uploaded and/or changed on
scheduled or ad hoc basis by you, the client.
Sound Recordings
Our system uses advanced algorithms and compression techniques
which allows you toplay voicerecordings fromtheIVR applicationon
airorontelevisionwithouttheneedfortimeconsumingmanipulation.
Database Integration
Our IVR infrastructure encompasses an Internet Service Provider,
which allows for callers’ informationto be stored to databases. This
also supports easy reporting.
We have customizedour IVR applications
to support other exciting promotions,
these include:
Voting
This system can use either multiple phone-in lines (e.g.
TrafficNet) or one line with multiple menu options (e.g.
Highveld Stereo’s Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge, 702
Brain Competition and 702 Walk the Talk), which allows
the caller to cast their vote.
Dedicationsand Requests
Callers leave theirdedications and/or requests on the IVR
line, these recordings can alsobefurthercategorized using
menu options, i.e. Anniversary wishes, Christmas wishes,
etc.
Transactional Messages
This is typically used tocollect information from thecaller.
The caller will be prompted to leaveinformation such as,
name and address and/or ID number, i.e. as ifcompleting
an entry form.
Caller Filtering Systems
Callers are prompted to enter information, using their
telephone keypads, by an interactive menu. Callers are
then filtered according to their key presses.
Information Applications
This applicationallows callers tolisten toinformation that
has been pre-recorded, i.e. news/information/competition
rules/company information/services/products.
Auction Applications
Callers usetheIVR lineto bid for theselected item/s, by
entering their bid using the telephone keypad. This
application can be adapted for either traditional
auctions or reverseauction. The application is able to
verify to the caller whether they have the
highest/lowest bid.
As part of our commitment to deployingsuccessful IVR
application weperform all our development in-house.
This benefits you, theclient, i.e.:
 Rapid servicedelivery
 Improved quality control
 Easier and quicker delivery of complicated
applications
 Years of experienceon both thetechnical and
concept development front
DIRECT CONNECT (DICON)
WHAT IS DICON?
______________________________________
A dicon is when we convert your Telkom issued
number into a revenue generating number by
issuing you with an 086 number without any
hardware changes. The new number can be
used instantly, and there will be no need to
change this number should the nomal Telkom
number change; we can simply re-route the
number at any given time.
_______________________________________________________
____
Typical applications which NGN Telecoms
would like to implement include:
 Fax-to-email
 Call centres
DICON - (derivedfromthe term “direct connect”) - is a revenue
sharing telephone number (086, 082 or 083) that can be
directed to an existing (non-revenue sharing) Telkom
telephone number.
For example, many call centres still use normal Telkom
telephone numbers e.g. the 20Twentycall centre inCape Town
is normally reached on 021 481 8200.
A dicon couldbe assignedsothat a caller coulddial either the
revenue sharingdicon number (086,082 or 083) or the Telkom
(021) number.
Both calls will be answered by the call centre in exactly the
same manner, nothing extra is needed for this operation.
In essence, we are just calling the call centre by a different
“name” (in this case either 021 or 086).
The call centre will answer calls to 021 or the new 086 dicon
number.
From a revenue perspective, both NGN Telecoms and the
client (where the dicon is routed to) will benefit if this client
advertises the revenue share number AND callers phone the
revenue share number.

SMS SHORT CODE
WHAT ARE SMS SHORT CODES?
______________________________________
Short codes (also knownas short numbers) are
special telephonenumbers,significantly shorter
thanfulltelephonenumbers,thatcanbeusedto
address SMS and MMS messages from certain
service providers’ mobile phones or fixed
phones. There are two types of short codes:
dialing and messaging.Theequivalentfor voice
calls is known as abbreviated dialing.
.
____________________________________________________
Short codes are designed to be easier to read and remember than
normal telephonenumbers. Liketelephonenumbers, shortcodesare
unique to each operatoratthetechnological level. Even so, providers
generally have agreements to avoid overlaps.
Short codes are widely usedfor value-added services such as television
program voting, ordering ringtones, charity donations and mobile
services. Messages sentto a shortcodecan be billedata higher rate
than a standardSMS and may even subscribea customertoa recurring
monthly service that will beaddedto thecustomer's mobilephonebill
until the user texts, for example, the word "STOP"to terminatethe
service.
WHYCHOOSE SMS SHORT CODES?
 A Legal Data base of all existing and potential clients and
customers arebuilt. This enables youto communicate with your
clients about promotions and specials. Wouldn't it be GREAT if
you could KNOW who currently consumes your services and
products?
 An SMS Short Code makes it as EASYas possiblefor the client to
make contact with YOU, ANY time of the day, ANY day of the
week! You can reply via bulk SMS, bulk email or a telephonecall
when most convenient to YOU.
 All marketing campaigns, such as paper medium, radio and TV
advertising cannow beMEASURED, which willleadto maximizing
the current marketing budget.
 Potentialand current clients can VOTEon products andservices to
establish market preferences.
 The tool can be used for competitions, to determine WHO would
like to own or use your products or services.
 Completeemails withattachments can besend out automatically
to all incoming SMSes, whichmeans that you willnotonlyreceive
the clients’ cellphone number, but also his email address for
future marketing purposes.
 Clients have 24/7 access to full reporting and data on all
campaigns.
SMS SHORT CODE SOLUTIONS

SECURITY AND REDUNDANCY OF THE FAX PLATFORM Security for fax transmissions is ofthe highest priority for fax users as faxes oftencontain confidentialand sensitive information. With this in mind, our Company developed the fax system with thehighest levelofsecurity possible. All faxes are sentto our systemover a phone/fax line in the same way thata standardfax is received via a phoneline. All faxes are encrypted with a standard fax encryption. Once a fax arrives at the fax server it is protected from outside hackers by a high-end firewall blocking intruders and hackers from accessing the system. This firewall also prevents potential viruses from entering the system. Our fax servers also employ Network Address Translation adding an extra level ofsecurity. The security level is of such a nature that the administrators ofthe Fax2Email systemcannotevenview the content of these faxes. The fax system is backedup daily with a structured “fallback” and “rollback” planfor recovery. Special considerations have been made on system fault resolution to ensure that completed successful fax receptions are delivered to its appropriate destination. Servers arestored in a controlledenvironment with respect totemperature, humidity, power fluctuations and outages, etc. The Fax2Email servers are all connected with a shared database infrastructure. This means if one server goes down, the others keep ongoing where theprevious server left off, thus having a guarantee ofno faxes getting lost. All Internetfax transmissions from faxserver to fax server on the fax network are encrypted with 128 bit Secure Socket Layer (SSL) across the globe. Additionally, our Company utilizes a proprietary protocol for the passing of faxes across the network. SSL, in combination with proprietary protocol, ensures an unmatched secure transmission of faxes over the Internet. Users of our system can rightfully feel that their faxes aresecure over the fax network.

  • 9. DIRECT CONNECT (DICON) WHAT IS DICON? ______________________________________ A dicon is when we convert your Telkom issued number into a revenue generating number by issuing you with an 086 number without any hardware changes. The new number can be used instantly, and there will be no need to change this number should the nomal Telkom number change; we can simply re-route the number at any given time. _______________________________________________________ ____ Typical applications which NGN Telecoms would like to implement include:  Fax-to-email  Call centres DICON - (derivedfromthe term “direct connect”) - is a revenue sharing telephone number (086, 082 or 083) that can be directed to an existing (non-revenue sharing) Telkom telephone number. For example, many call centres still use normal Telkom telephone numbers e.g. the 20Twentycall centre inCape Town is normally reached on 021 481 8200. A dicon couldbe assignedsothat a caller coulddial either the revenue sharingdicon number (086,082 or 083) or the Telkom (021) number. Both calls will be answered by the call centre in exactly the same manner, nothing extra is needed for this operation. In essence, we are just calling the call centre by a different “name” (in this case either 021 or 086). The call centre will answer calls to 021 or the new 086 dicon number. From a revenue perspective, both NGN Telecoms and the client (where the dicon is routed to) will benefit if this client advertises the revenue share number AND callers phone the revenue share number.
