Man arrested after significant drug find in Oldham. Is there really a popular music scene in Oldham?
And we have your thoughts on the Metrolink due in 2013.(9 seconds)
Hello, I’m Tayla Adams with your Oldham Community Radio News bulletin. In this morning’s news, a
wheelie bin stashed with cannabis was discovered at the rear of a Roundthorn property. Police
searched a house following tip-offs from local residents. Officers found street-ready drugs worth
£25,000. Mobile phones and cash were also recovered. A 27 year old man was arrested on suspicion
of cultivating cannabis with intention to supply. PC Graham Turner of East Oldham Neighbourhood
Policing Team said ‘this is a significant find as it’s very rare we find drugs bagged and ready for sale.’
We sent our community correspondent Amy Dodsworth to Oldham Sixth Form College to see how
drugs are affecting young people in our area. She spoke to Lewis Wright, a mentor at the college. (42

I’m here at OSFC to speak to Lewis Wright about the drugs issue. I asked him if he thought there was
a major drug problem in the Oldham area. (10 seconds)

In other news, Oldham’s music scene seems to be expanding, but are people really as interested as
they used to be in the local scene? We spoke to two teenage bands that live and perform in Oldham
about how the music scene has progressed in the past few years and how they promote their band
in the community. (19 seconds)

We also took to the streets of Oldham with our correspondent Amy Dodsworth to find out the
community’s views on the music scene.

I’ll now pass you over to Amy, our off-the-wall reporter.
Off-the-wall Reporter (Amy Dodsworth)
I’m Amy Dodsworth and I am your off-the-wall reporter. We have looked at how the new Metrolink
system is affecting Oldham’s community during its construction. The work is expected to finally
finish in Autumn 2013 and will hopefully be more efficient than the buses and trains we already had.
2. Tayla, Ben and Amy
We sent our reporter Ben CK to speak to local people about how the work has affected their daily
routine. (24 seconds)
I’m here at one of the Metrolink construction sites to get people’s views on the transport
improvements. Excuse me Sir! How do you think the Metrolink will improve Oldham’s transport?
Sound clip (10 seconds)
Excuse me Madam! Do you think you will benefit from the Metrolink when it’s completed?
Sound clip (4 seconds)
