Ancient Chinese Proverb
What ismaths? It's the essential arrangementof the world, whichwe see innumbers, patterns, shapes,
symmetry and etc. Why do we need it? We need to understand the concepts of numbers and
measurementwhenwe buyvegetablesorgrocery;while arrangingpartiesorevenbakingapizzaor cake
or biscuits. We see patternsinart and music. Each and everything around us has symmetry. Businesses
alsoneedan estimation of howmuchsomethingisgoingtocost, how manypeople need their products
or will buythe product, how fast it is going to sell. Our bank accounts are also a part of a mathematical
game.We needtokeeptrack of our bankaccounts and ensure we do not spend more than our income.
Math is all around us!
Math playsanimportant role in developing today’s fast learners. The curriculum integrates HOTS, MI,
multimedia, technology and assessments to make the learning faster and proficient. Nowadays, the
curriculum is not textbook-driven or fragmented but is subject matter based, project-based and
integrated with the life skills. The curriculum refers to the seven mathematical processes: problem
solving, logical and reasoning, selecting tools and strategies, reflecting, thinking, representing, and
communicating. These developments are not only essential to the gain the understanding of math but
are also important in preparing students to lead a successful life in the society. They promote group
effort, inquisitiveness, sharing of ideas, risk taking, and allow an opportunity to argue and defend
explanationsandstrategies.Educatingthroughthe mathematical progression would not only intensify
students’awarenessandunderstandingof mathbutalsodevelop a society of critical thinkers, problem
solvers, and risk takers. 21st-century math is interdisciplinary, project-based, and research-driven.
Students are self-sufficient and work both independently and interdependently.
The young brain of the children gains knowledge through play-way method. This is a well-known fact
that promptsamusingideasinpreschool education;butonce children hit elementary school, the fun is
likely to slowly shrink over time. As the child grows, the hands-on projects are replaced with
monotonousworksheets. As math is a tricky subject for many children to understand, keeping the fun
alive maybe a way to supportstudentsintheirmissionforknowledge.Realizingthatnotall kids learn in
the same manner,it makessense tointerweave the mathlessonswith audio and visual tools. For some
children, there is a need of a blended way of learning for better understanding and withholding.
