Editor's Notes

  • #3 What do we mean by Mobile technology? It is any type of mobile technology that is connected to the internet/digital world via some sort of carryable device. Immediately, we think of smart phones, but it could be snapchat glasses, wearables like fitbit or apple watch, even tablets. All of this changes the way we operate in the digital world. Everything is personalized because of mobile tech. Personalized phones, personalized tracking and fitness devices, personalized advertising based on where we move, etc. More over, our digital world and real world are enmeshing--mostly because of social media in the mobile technologies. Most importantly, digital no longer means a computer. We are no longer tied to a physical laptop or desktop to access the world.
  • #4 Additionally, mobile technology has changed our real world technology too. There’s an App for that has become so common place that in order to access tons of information, we only need a single device. Newspapers are going obsolete, not only because of digital revolution, but because all news can be accessed through an app--or twtter. Many people still watch the weather, but most of us just tap on the app and see the forecast for the day. Even email--a digital platform--is slowly moving away from computers and is as easy as tapping an app
  • #5 Mobile technology is also changing the landscape of our culture, making it less localized and more globalized. In the book, it says mobile tech embraces a placeless lifestyle--meaning that just because you’re in one area doesn’t mean you can’t reach another or even view another through pictures, google maps, news. It also ntroduces practices that suggests a more global class; we think in terms of the world with the surge of mobile tech and social media. Theorists are also examining how tht changes communities in this world of digital media. We are eithe rmore diverse, or more understanding of diverse cultures. Its very easy to immerse ourselves in different areas of the world via technology and social media. There’s even translation apps to help language barriers.
  • #7 An american entrepreneur
  • #8 Out of the 2.5 billion smart phone users, these are the amount of people using social media--main social media. This means people are always being connected to each other in a digital sense and a social sense.
  • #9 While there are other mobile technologies, Mobile technology is perhaps the greatest impact on our social media world. A mobile phone allows us to always be connected through apps. Additionally, social media has revolutionized the way way entrepaneurs and app developers think. Everything has a social aspect to it.
  • #10 Everything we do involves a social aspect because of the convergence of social media and mobile technology. For example, when we leave food reviews, it’s no longer within our inner circle or just the family we went out with, it can be shared via a mobile app on the spot--yelp. We can see reviews of otehrs, add our own, comment and circulate everything. Foursquare as well--not as popular now, but it started the idea of “checking in” because in our social world, everything must be known and shared. It’s part of this global, social revolution. Even apps with secured safety--venmo--has a social aspect. You must add your friends (like on Facebook) and you can even share on a feed who paid who with what. Additionally, apps like venmo prove how mobile technology has engrained itself in our lives--no more cheques and bank statements. We digitially transfer money on the spot.
  • #11 With the introduction of mobile technology, the idea of digital dualism was prominent. People believed that what happened in the digital world was separate from the physical world. You had a virtual reality, perhaps through games and the research you found, but you were still very aware of the reality--what was and wasn’t real. But what’s happening with the increase of social media is that we’re breaking away from it
  • #12 Augmented reality is the integreation of the digital into the physical world. It’s using technology to impose something digital into our physical reality. In essence, it’s not one coming into the other and breaking off, it’s a literal enmeshing. No longer do we separate our digital lives from our physical ones--though we may claim. The friends we make on facebook are many times our friend s in real life. When we interact with them online, we also interact with them offline, and the twol worlds relate. Of course, this is different with people we’ve never met in real life.

  • #14 Even tho this is the future of augmented reality, we already have and used this type of mobile technology. Pokemon Go is a prime example of AR. Just in case you don’t know, it was an app that came out in 2016 spinning off the old game and cartoon Pokemon. In this app, your physical world and position was recorded by the mobile app and as you physically walkled around, your character did too. You could find pokemon through the phone, and you pointed at it physically, threw the pokeball, and caught stuff. Again, it was a social app, you coud trade pokemon, battle thema, conquer gyms, stop at pokestops and talk. It was a huge breakthrough in AR social media.
  • #15 Moreover, as always, we use AR in social media. We use AR everyday with snapchat really. Snapchat filters change our physical faces or even spaces, dependent on the filter, which is AR. We have bitmojis where our cartoons come into our real world. It’s a fun aspect of social media, but also affects things such changing our image through filters and adjusting our faces which can be a commentary on how mobile tech puts this expectation on image. Again teh virtual and reality meshing together through the phone
  • #16 So, there are plenty of areas affected by mobile technology and social media. Apps and the connections we make through them have changed how we operate--how businesses operate--how politics operate--when scholars say mobile technology has changed our landscape, these are prime examples of just how.
