Where Our Roll Starts
Diode LED Core Values
CRI (Color Rendering Index) is the quantitative measure of the ability of a light source to reproduce colors of
various objects faithfully in comparison with a natural light source, typically the sun.
 Highest Possible CRI Value: 100
 Incandescent Lamps
 Sun Light
 CRI is measured using R1-R8 (standard range)
 Not all CRI is created equal
 Some high CRI LEDs can have little to no R9-R14 Values (quality range)
 R9 is the key value for proper rending of the following:
 Skin Tones
 Wood Grains
 Food
 Clothes
 Art Pieces
 Textured Media
 These values can be found through IES LM-79 Reports
are publically available through Diode LED

Standard CRI Value Testing
Quality CRI Value Testing
 Loss of red tones due low R9 values
 Makes visuals less detailed and
vibrant
 Washed out and boring, doesn’t
grab attention

Now that you’ve seen some of the
pieces, putting together a lighting
system is simple and easy.
There are a few rules that must be
followed based on the materials and
components used.
Diode LED has focused hugely on NEC
and UL compliancy and has made
sure to follow these regulations when
developing new products.

Agenda
24
Putting a LED lighting system requires an easy 3 step process
followed by a few minor steps to complete the design.
 Lighting Source
 Control System
 Power Supply
25
Putting It All Together
Basic LED Configuration
First step is to evaluate the project’s needs. Think about what the project is trying to accomplish and to do so, ask these few
questions.
 Is this accent or task?
 What’s being lit up?
 Will moisture be present?
 Do you want to flood the area?
 Focus?
 Highlight?
These few general questions will better assist in selected the right light source material to meet or exceed your goals
26
Tool for the Right Job
Basic LED Configuration
The next step in building a system is
understanding how it’ll be controlled.
There are many ways to control LEDs in
the home, office, or anywhere else that
may be needed and can range from on/off
systems to full on computerized
automation.
So ask the end user…
 Do you need it to turn on/off?
 Does it need to dim?
 Does it even have a form of control?
27
Chaos in Control
Basic LED Configuration
The last thing you’ll need is a power
supply, also known as a Driver.
Drivers take the duty of changing over
high voltage AC electricity to low voltage
DC electricity. The variety of available
drivers range from simple non-dimmable
plug-in models to industrial dimmable
units
The model you’ll need is based on:
 The amount of light being controlled (wattage
load)
 The type of control being used (on/off…home
automation…computerized)
28
It’s All Adding Up Now
Basic LED Configuration
Project required 10 feet of linear task light
 Blaze LED Tape Light has been selected
 Blaze Tape requires 2.9 watts per foot
 10 feet x 2.9w = 29 watts of power
Project specs out a Lutron Diva DVLV-600p
 Based on Lutron’s specifications, this is a Magnetic
Low Voltage type dimmer switch
Diode LED offers a line of Magnetic Dimmable Drivers
with a compatibility list of the best performing dimmer
switches
 The Lutron DVLV-600p has been tested by both Lutron
and our in house engineers to land the spot on the
compatibility list
Knowing 29 watts of power supply is require a properly
spec’d Driver should leave about 20% buffer for safety and
longevity purposes
 The closest sized power supply to that would be
60w
Of course there are miscellaneous
accessories and options that may be
needed.
Accessories such as:
 Connectors
 Extension Cables
 Mounting Hardware
 Chromapath Channels

  • #15 Notice the fluidity of the applications. Testing and final positioning is a must when using linear LED material. Due to the “Density” or spacing of the LEDs, the final positioning plus a few other factors can contribute to the reduction of spotting or scalopping. Most LED suppliers are not aware of the quality design of this chip or its existance Physically it may appear the same, but the internal performance is what makes it different. Energy efficient consuming less power but providing more lumen output and quality of CRI. Proof that LED technology is still evolving
  • #17 Developed for over 3 years internally by our engineers and partner company who designs Monster Cable. Designed for accent lighting versus task lighting. We’ve seen applications on out door docks, patios, as well as inside uses in restaurant kitchens (meat prep areas) and deli shops.
