In the late 1960s it began developing telecommunications technologies. By the 1980s, Nokia had become focused on electronics and mobile communications, acquiring several companies in those fields. It launched its first mobile phone in 1981 and by the late 1990s had become the world's largest mobile phone manufacturer, pioneering many innovations in the industry.
