12. What to do if you get a parent to challenge
materials in the library
1. Don’t panic; listen to the concern.
2. Explain the ALA Library Bill of Rights
and CCPS Materials Selection Policy
(Carolyn will talk about that)
3. If parent still not happy, point them to the
Reconsideration Materials Policy ( in your
packet)
4. Inform your principal and me ASAP.

Our job is to support you in any way we can. We
provide guidance, training, and mentoring on:

Use all resources available to you in
your selection of materials:

●Book reviews from library journals
●Teacher recommendations
●Book picks from other librarians
●You will receive a packet of
information in our 1 on 1 training
about selection and weeding library
materials.

Take time to get to know your collection, your
faculty, and your students.

23. Collection analysis are run once a year
(in the fall/winter) for each school, but
can be requested anytime. Your results
can be found on Mackin.com.

Other sources may be used to purchase
library items if the item is not available
through Mackin. Your school may run a
Book Fair, if so, we strongly recommend that
you take your profits in cash and use that
money to purchase materials from Mackin.

26. Cataloging and Processing
Support
1. We offer occasional workshops for you and
your library assistant.
2. CCPS has standardized cataloging
specifications. These can be found on CNet.
3. CCPS also has standardized processing
specifications, which are part of the county
contract with our book vendors.

27. Periodicals
Magazines were ordered in the Spring
from Cox. You will receive a copy of
the invoice via email within the next
couple of weeks.
The amount of your Cox invoice has already been deducted from
your Mackin account.
28. Adding new items
Many of you have already had
instructions on how to add items
that have ISBNs or ISSNs that are
already in the catalog.

29. Delivery Service
CLS and the Warehouse
work together to deliver
your items to you ASAP!
Materials that have been
cataloged are packed up
in boxes and delivered
twice a week.

Beginning with collection development to placing the
order until the items arrive in the hands of your
students – I am your contact.
