CAC Sustainability Commitments CAC Mission … Our mission is to ensure that each student achieves his or her educational and personal potential in a safe environment . We challenge all students to envision new possibilities, empower them to achieve their aspirations, and inspire them to serve a global community and contribute to a sustainable future Master Plan Vision We envision CAC with a unifying Middle Eastern style to include natural stonework, arches, and grillwork. Environmental sustainability will be featured through high quality building standards and materials. Curricular needs will be accommodated through sufficiently large well-lit learning spaces. The campus will be safe and secure while maintaining its current community feel.
Sustainability at CAC More than protecting environment & energy efficient buildings it combines three closely interlinked elements… Place Master Planning environmental considerations LEED guidelines used in building design Energy & environmental stewardship People Healthy environment School safety & security Faculty satisfaction & retention Student engagement Program Earth Month & Green Team Science projects
CAC Green Team An Organic, Bottom Up Approach Established in 2003 by environmentally involved faculty Faculty/staff & parents continued involved Groups extended to MS & HS student groups Originally supported by a CAC Academic Innovation Grant Launched campus wide recycling program Working to eliminate plastic water bottles on campus with installation of “Water Oasis.” Continually searching for opportunities for CAC to contribute to a sustainable future.
Extension of Sustainability at CAC Parent Organization Grants UV sun screening projects (tents, umbrellas, pergolas) Class Gift Choices Solar clock Water oasis bottle fillers Service Groups Boy Scout projects Campus tree mapping Playground construction Student Gifts Solar panels

CAC Sustainable Facilities Initiatives began in 2006 – Maintenance, Transportation, Housing & Janitorial. Started with a whole campus safety audit Maintenance Safety training program started Equipment safety audit Plumbing fixture assessment for water conservation Transportation Driver training program started Fleet converting to light, sun reflective colors (from burgundy to off white) Exploring the conversion of fleet to natural gas
CAC Sustainable Facilities, cont. Janitorial Standards for agents used in cleaning Standards for materials used for pest control & landscape spraying Campus wide AC usage procedures (timing and temperature) Housing Double Pane windows installed to reduce energy consumption and improve sound proofing Local sourcing of all furniture and renovation materials Weekly operational manager meetings include sustainability as a standing topic.
