A new local history book chronicles the untold story of the effort to preserve Big Basin Redwoods State Park in California. The book details the campaign in the late 1800s by residents to save the redwood forests from being clear cut as the timber industry expanded. It profiles the diverse individuals who fought for over a decade to establish California's first permanent state park. A portion of the book's proceeds will support the park's recovery from the 2020 CZU Lightning Complex Fires. The inspiring story of the early preservationists is especially timely as the community works to reestablish the park in the aftermath of the fires.
