1. DOMUND: World Mission Day
Since 1943, this "feast of catholicity and universal solidarity" is known in Spain
as DOMUND (Sunday World). This name has helped identify and further
disseminate this journey with us, and message-a warning about the common
responsibility of all Christians in the evangelization of the world it has
permeated deep sensitivity and missionary tradition of our country.
Our solidarity actions begin with the World Mission Sunday. The World Mission
Day is the highlight of a stream of missionary animation and cooperation to be
deployed throughout the year, especially along the whole "October Missionary",
month mission for excellence.
It is an important day in the life of the Church because it teaches how to give:
as an offering made to God, in the Eucharistic celebration and for all the
missions of the world". The money collected through the families’ donations is
destined for a common fund of solidarity distributed, in the Pope's name, by the
Society for the Propagation of the Faith among the missions and missionaries of
the entire world."
2. Forest Week
Every year, our students participate with students of other schools in the Valle
de Buelna, in different activities within the Forest Week designed by the
departments of Environment, Education and Farming.
Let’s tell you about the activities done this year.
On one hand, the oldest boys and girls from 3rd to 6th of EP, as real
mountaineers, headed towards the Peña Del Moro, located on Mount Arm in Los
Corrales de Buelna to plant trees (birches and alders) in collaboration with the
Forestry Service.
Once up, and before planting the trees, the students listened to the
explanations given by three representatives of the Municipality Education about
vegetation, soil and around the mountain. With great enthusiasm children came
down in small groups. There were many trees that were planted to replenish
what was once a landfill.
3. After all that exercise, it was time to sit and relax and eat together,
surrounded by nature. Once recovered energies, we went back to school, and
arrived there at about 2 and a half, tired but satisfied. This is an exciting
initiative that delights both children and teachers.
4. On the other hand, the preschool children and the 1st
Cycle of Primary Education
planted begonias of many colours in some of the squares in the village. How
proud they were to see the result!
Then they moved to the Municipal Sports Centre to enjoy a puppet play "Stories
of junk" invited by the City Council; it turned out to be quite fun and funny but
it also transmitted behaviors and environmentally friendly daily habits.
After the performance they walked back to school to have lunch and play games
in the playground with his teachers and classmates.
5. CHRISTMAS SOLIDARITY ACTIONS
Every year we prepare some special celebrations at Christmas, from
the youngest to the oldest students, everyone is involved and takes
part on them.
One of the things we do is a food collecting (see picture) (what we
call “operación kilo”); during a week our pupils from all stages bring to
school packets of food from their homes such as rice, pasta, oil,
biscuits etc. The last day of the week, usually on a Friday, this food
is taken by the children to the town’s church (see picture) and from
there is shared and sent to needed families that live in the area.
This is done by the ONG Cáritas that works on behalf of the most
needed.

8. Another activity, this time by the oldest students from ESO and the
training programs, as volunteers, is to visit an elderly residence in
Los Corrales ( Las Anjanas) where they help them with craft
workshops (see picture: making Christmas cards). They also prepare
some carols with the help of some teachers and sing them with the
elderly, which is something they enjoy a lot.
