What is Neuralink?
Neuralink is a developing ultra-high bandwidth brain machine the interfaces to connect
humans and computers.
Essentially is neurotechnology that connects a device that can send messages to a
computer from wires connected to the brain
Is supposedly to be first used on paraplegics so that they can more easily use smart
phones as well as typing on a computer.
This company was developed by Elon Musk in 2016
Animal Testing and Neuralink
Neuralink is currently only tested on macaque monkeys and has never
been tested on any human being
 There has been accusations of animal abuse with the testing of
these devices
 Neuralink said use of research animals is nothing new to the field of
“novel medical devices and treatments,” and that as a company,
they are “absolutely committed to working with animals in the most
humane and ethical way possible.”
 Musk did confirm that money did die during testing of Neuralink
Money MindPong: Neuralink
Implanting Neuralink
 Neuralink was originally supposed to be implanted
behind the ear with wired that would run inside the
head and connect to brain tissue.
 Now Neuralink will be implanted into the top of
head with a chip like device that has neural
threads to connect to brain tissue.
 A device has been developed by the company for
installation of the device which Musk has
presented to the public
The New
Neuralink Design
Neuralink once implanted into the brain would
be able to translate human thoughts into actions
like typing, pressing icons and controlling a mouse
just simply by thinking it.
It would surgically be inserted into the brain
using robotics by neurosurgeons the link would be
placed into the skull and the wires would run to
brain
End goal of this design is to create a "brain
computer interface" that allows for people
to transmit and receive information from a computer
to their brain wirelessly.
Other Neurological Technologies
• Neurosky: manufacturer of brain-computer interface technologies for consumer use
applications; it was founded in 2004 in the Silicon Valley
• Emotiv: creating cutting edge EEG (electroencephalogram) technology to shift how and
where you can conduct neuroscience research; it was founded in 2011 in San Francisco
• Paradromics: data rate interface between brains and computers where medical
problems are met with technical solutions
"In order to enable new, effective therapies for brain-related disorders, we need to build
technologies that can communicate effectively with the brain. This means developing a
specialized data interface that will translate between bioelectric and digital signals."
Electroencephalogram Technology
Test that tracks electrical activity in your brain using small electric discs (electrodes)
attached to your scalp.

Troubles with Neuro-Technology
• Still highly experimental and most projects have yet to leaving testing in labs
• Because of being still experimental most are not yet reliable for usage from day to day
- it is probable that reliability of these devices working has to do with a the phycological
aspect of the human brain as imperfect neurologically making decoding the brain too difficult
• Scientists has also argued that the closer neurotechnology gets to being in the hands of
the public there are some ethical concerns; four in particular: privacy and consent, agency
and identity, augmentation and bias.
• This new sort of technology would allow hackers a possibility to exploit and manipulate
people in a new way.
