Lily Craps, responsible for the Mainframe outsourcing project at SDWorx, explains how the moving of their mainframe to a shared environment at NRB, enabled ‘economies of scale’ on infrastructure costs for hardware and software. She describes the process, from starting the outsourcing study, over the RFI/RFP process, the selection of the provider, the contract negotiations and the migration project, next to the criteria for choosing NRB and an Infrastructure As A Service –cloud model.
Technology is evolving and changing at a very rapid pace, and it is more important than ever to ensure that mission critical back-end mainframe applications can exploit these new and disruptive technologies to transform digitally and deliver real value to the business, and to customers. DevOps on z Systems is a key enabler for the API economy and hybrid cloud. In this session we will discuss how DevOps can transform application delivery on z Systems, mitigate risk, and elevate the ability to respond quickly to customer expectations through continuous improvement"
IT landscapes tend to be more and more complex. The need for data access anywhere at any time forces us to use new technologies, adopt cloud solutions and integrate existing legacy systems. Agile processes, rapid deployment and the tools to support them have become a priority, over more a need, for companies.
To maintain these landscapes, the need for Release Management Automation arises.

The Evolving Data Center Network: Open and Software-DefinedDell World
Can the network be managed as easily and cost-effectively as a server or PC? We think so. That is why Dell is working to make this possible through our Open Networking initiative. In this session, learn how Dell can help you move to a software-defined network and make your data center more agile and efficient. We will discuss new open networking platforms ranging from 1GbE to 100GbE with next-generation, multi-rate architectures and a choice of operating systems. We will also explore how these new network solutions from Dell help enable private/hybrid cloud, Hadoop, convergence, and VDI implementations.
Service Assurance Constructs for Achieving Network Transformation - Sunku Ran...Liz Warner
Transformation of network softwarization towards 5G inherently requires satisfying the requirements across a broad scope of verticals while maintaining Quality of Service (QoS) and Quality of Experience (QoE) criteria required to satisfy various network slice constraints. This session with hands-on lab introduces 3 key elements of service assurance – Monitoring, Presentation & provisioning layers and introduction to various cloud-native open source frameworks like Collectd, Influxdb, Grafana, Prometheus, Kafka and Platform for Network Data Analytics (PNDA).

Software-Defined Networking (SDN): Unleashing the Power of the NetworkRobert Keahey
It goes without saying that cloud computing has dramatically reshaped the information technology services landscape. Virtualization is unleashing the power of commodity-based technology and open source communities are building new applications and services at an astonishing rate, but networking has lagged behind compute and storage in virtualization and automation. We’ve become accustomed to specialized networking silicon, complex operating systems and highly distributed control planes. For the most part, we’ve accepted the model along with its high costs.
All that is changing! New protocols such as OpenFlow are freeing the network control plane from proprietary operating systems and hardware platforms. We are entering a new era where customers control the features – and release schedules – of new, open networking applications that address the needs of the mega-scale world.
A lot of work is required to realize the potential of Software-Defined Networking (SDN), where we can enjoy the benefits derived from “software automating software.” This talk will examine some of the history that led us to the point where current networking architectures are no longer viable for cloud computing at mega-scale. We’ll take a look at the basics of SDN and some of its key elements – OpenFlow, network virtualization, and orchestration – along with some of the initiatives and companies that are setting the stage for the next generation of networking.
Power utilities worldwide are looking for ways to extend the life of in-field assets while also improving service levels to power subscribers. Existing energy infrastructure deployed across our nation is largely composed of assets with extremely limited communication capabilities based on SCADA protocols, such as DNP3. By the end of 2024, over $7 trillion of infrastructure upgrades will be required. These challenges can be addressed with smarter distribution grids that control and monitor assets down to the level of neighborhoods and individual homes. These smart grids incorporate military-grade securable protocols and hardened architectures. They use hygiene services and bi-directional conversion to Data Distribution Service (DDS) software for all internal and intra-network signalling. And they source intelligence in nodes with continued secure communications to existing operational management systems. The result is distributed management, distributed intelligence and distributed security for high resolution analysis, implementation of evolving policy controls and reasonable price to performance ratio (IRR).
This webinar, co-hosted by RTI and LocalGrid, will discuss the evolution and benefits of smart grids, as well as advancements such as:
Localized control rather than centralized protocol hygiene (energy firewalls)
Analytics and policy control rather than just security
Over the air DDS-assisted updates to change duty cycle and capabilities, and reduce service costs
Mesh-/fabric-based network topologies for self-healing, fault-tolerant networks (multi-master topologies)
Verification of DR compliance using DDS
