The school has a goal of technological literacy but its computer lab has 30 outdated computers without internet access. Teachers spend one hour weekly in the lab. Problems identified include outdated software/hardware, lack of internet access, varying technology competencies among staff, and teachers being unsure how to integrate technology into lessons. A performance gap analysis showed most teachers have not been trained to use technology and do not own computers. A comparison was made from the learner, the facilitator and the technical viewpoint of these two weblog tools available at Unisa. This paper describes the practical considerations taken and decision-making processes followed when a choice between two web-logging tools was required. The aim is to consider factors that may affect the acceptance and use of weblog tools, and reasons why one works better than another in an Open Distance Learning (ODL) environment, especially for modules having student numbers in excess of three hundred.

In October 2012, School Improvement Network surveyed educators from across the nation to find out the use and effects of technology in classrooms. 6,929 educators from all 50 states shared how technology is being used in their classroom and how it’s affecting students.
