Impact of ICT Resources
            2012-2013
            on Institution
If you don’t know where
you’re going….

You’ll probably end up
somewhere else.

---Yogi Berra
Current scenario
Some of our teachers are still on Entrance Stage
 Teacher’s focus is still on what she/he knows
  – text-based tools like blackboards, textbooks, workbooks,
   task sheets, and overhead/multi-media projectors.
 These tools are used in combination to support teaching.

 These teachers have started using new
technology and it is broadly being
  integrated into traditional classroom.

 Technology has become an efficiency
 device – “additional, enhanced, faster.”
Comparison of Implementation
and Adaptation
ICT Apprehension
 ICT in education has its own anxiety because of the following different aspects:
Changing Mind set

It is a destiny with no way out.
Current scenario (cont.)
Some Teachers are in creation stage.
 This stage is evidenced less by change in classroom practice
and more by a change of personal attitude toward technology.
 Confident, effortless computing
 Faculty replace old ways with new ways of teaching
 They create new goals and pedagogical understandings.
 Teachers experiment with new instructional patterns and new
ways of communicating with students and peers.
Comparison between adaption and creation
stage
Action Research
 To follow up with the new educational technology,

teachers need to spend time, work hard and keep this
up and running all their life.
 Teachers must search on finding ways of providing

guided search to avoid distraction from lesson objective.

Potentials of an Effective ICT Lesson
 Motivate and engage learners
 Bring life to concepts and processes
 Foster inquiry
 Provide flexibility
 Allow application of information
 Provide access to world of information
 Bring the world into the classroom
 Offer collaborative opportunities and communication
 Offer tutored and individualized learning
when to plan?
 Planning of ICT lesson must be done almost 15 days before the conduction of lesson.

 Projects must be planned term-wise

 Before the start of term planning of projects must be completed to utilize the free time.

 All teachers could participate and discuss to find the best strategy in the presence of ICT
teacher, ETAC Ambassador and Admin person.

 Peer observation of ICT lesson and its evaluation must be done in the presence of school
Head where future action should be planned.

 Regular discussions and workshops on team work and awareness about new teaching
technologies must be done to motivate all teachers.
.
What influences motivation?

  Our Values
  Appreciation
  Incentives
  Co-operation/support
  Confidence in success
  mood or emotional state
  Positive criticism
Appropriate Method
Teacher must:
• Identify the cognitive process she want to engage in
students. (i.e., recalling and implementing previous
   knowledge)
• Choose the instructional methods that best support
those. (searching some quiz using web 2.0 technology)
• Choose the technology that best supports those
   instructional methods.
• Design the lesson.
Change in the Role of Teacher
 Teaching is not anymore a monotonic job, where teachers keep on teaching
the same stuff over and over again.

 ICT has entirely changed the role and the job of teachers. Teachers are not
anymore the source of information, they are becoming more as facilitators,
  or “scaffolding” teachers.

 With this mandatory change, teachers definitely need serious help.
Change Elements
How to motivate teachers?
• Providing good resources and support inside the school will
facilitate the use of ICT and enhance teacher motivation.

•Teachers motivation is based on the freedom.

•Teacher must be given a chance to test new ICT tools and ways of
teachings.

•Supportive and collaborative relationship among teachers.

•Money rewards in the ICT use may enhance their motivation.
How to motivate teachers?(cont.)
 Teachers must go through APPM (Academic Practices Procedures manual) and
  implement it.

 Discussions and workshops should be arranged.

 Adherence of code of conduct related to inter-personal and intrapersonal
  skills.

 Regularity of conduction of co-ordination meeting in the presence of ICT
  teacher and Administration.

 Workshops on enhancing social skills and team work
How to motivate teachers? (cont.)
 Co-planning of ICT lesson

 Support observations of ICT lessons.

 Student feed-back for evaluation of ICT lesson.

 Use of school social network for discussions and sharing of resources.

 Involvement of Parents
Technical Support:
Ample technical support has been provided by the system.

  Hardware Software
 Multimedia projector for middle  Genuine windows
    school.  Math typing software
 LED TV 52” for resource room.  Global warming loop game
   3 to 4 digital Cameras  Quiz-tree.com

                                       Cacoo for mapping
Location and Availability of Resources
 Our school has two spacious labs equipped with all
  resources needed.
 Resource room is still lacking resources.
 Availability of multi-media projector for middle school as
it is basic necessity of ICT lesson.
 Provision of Internet in teachers copy checking area.
Acknowledgements needed

Administration need to acknowledge the following points
 the big load added to teachers’ job,

 how much complicated and demanding their job became,
Considerations:
 Administration need to satisfy teachers’ basic needs in their teaching
environment to participate in implementing the ICT strategy in school.

 Provide support and up-to-date resources.

 Give rewards and appreciation for special ICT use. Workshops of how
to effectively integrate ICT in teaching and learning is the real target.

 The training sessions should take into considerations the basic needs
and wants of teachers as training has great influence on the
acceptance and the later use of technology
Considerations: (cont.)
 To motivate teachers to use ICT effectively in Education, effective continuous
  professional development is needed.

 Encourage teachers to keep on having action research studies to explore ICT
  new implementations and success.

 Finally, a continuous needs assessment should be conducted to keep on
  fulfilling basic needs of teachers.
The End

          Thank you.
