NDMC Ltd is a company formed in 2002 that works with privately owned companies to design and deliver strategic plans. Over the past decade, NDMC has proven that a small, skilled team can achieve great results by working closely with customers. This presentation highlights some of NDMC's successful projects with Ernst & Young, Canon Europe, various local governments, and PA Consulting where they developed customized software solutions to help these organizations better manage credentials, resources, pricing strategies, transportation infrastructure, and business intelligence/data analytics.

NDMC Ltd was formed in 2002 to support privately owned company owners
and leaders to design and deliver stretch strategies . The founders share a
common view that business can be done better, smarter and more ethically
than it so often is.
Over the last decade we’ve been able to prove that a small team of highly

5. Credentials Management
• We were approached by Ernst &
Young to solve a problem. They were
no. 6 in the top-5 list of professional
services companies!
• Brand research suggested they
struggled to evidence their credentials
with new clients. But senior partners
aren’t paid to key data into their PC on
case stories!
• In 2003 we set out to solve that
problem.
• The result was the global deployment
of a credentials management system
that harvested, enriched, formatted
and presented case stories.
• Encanvas was selected even though
the company had invested in
Autonomy.
• Encanvas was to become one of only
50 software products then adopted by
EY internally that passed their security
testing.

6. Finding the Right Person for the Job
• Having provided a good way of
sourcing credentials, we went on to
build two other internal systems for EY:
• The first was a horizon scanning system
that trawled the Internet for fine-
grained, event driven and relevant
news stories on topics that EY
customers in the energy sector cared
about. This provided EY with an ‘early
warning system’ of topics they could
advise clients on.
• Secondly, we introduced a geo-spatial
map powered talent resourcing
system; giving senior managers the
tools to search for the best talent for
any project from their global resource
pool.

7. Building a Pricing Strategy Based on Evidence
• Canon Europe has been a
customer since 2002.
We’ve done several
software projects for them.
• Our first project was a
simple utility license
management system to
report on the use of utilities
across Europe for tax
purposes. The system is still
in use today.
• Our second project was to
provide a European Street
Pricing Index: providing
intelligence on market
prices for MFPs and toner
costs – considered essential
to form competitive pricing
strategies.

10. Creating a holistic view of street works
• The 2004 Traffic Management
Act meant that if local
authorities failed to improve
the coordination of road works
within their territories and
across their borders, Traffic
Managers could go to Prison.
• None of the incumbent Street
works Management Systems
were able to respond within
the deadline to the
requirements of the Act.
• The Traffic Manager of West
Sussex County Council
approached us to see if we
could help.
• The resulting Street works
Coordination System was
crafted within three days.

14. Turning Legacy Systems into Value Adding Assets
• Telent ltd had a problem. They
were responsible for managing
the West Midlands Traffic
Information System but the high
costs of maintaining this legacy
platform meant there was little
investment to make
improvements. After several years
of waiting, stakeholders were
getting increasingly frustrated.
• Using Encanvas, NDMC worked
expediently with telent to migrate
the legacy database to a new
Microsoft SQL Server environment,
produce major enhancements to
the functionality and user
experience of the legacy system,
leading to the eventual ‘switch-
off’ of the legacy system.

15. Watching over the West Midlands for 6 years!
• One of the major
enhancements of the
‘Matisse’ system was the
introduction of geo-
spatial mapping and
business intelligence
features (standard
components of
Encanvas).
• For stakeholders, the
system delivered a single
place to view all forms of
traffic and transport
information.
• As part of the project
live CCTV streams were
collected from cameras
across the region.

16. From Data Overload to Clarity
• One of the challenges of IT projects is that
organizations often have to invest in them
before they can truly qualify whether a
project investment will see a return.
• This is particularly problematic in large and
complex business intelligence projects
where complexities in the acquisition,
formatting and re-use of data can increase
costs, timescales and cut RoI.
• This was the challenge facing PA
Consulting with one of their energy
customers. Both parties were convinced
that better business insights would drive
efficiencies but they needed to pilot a
system to prove it.
• NDMC worked with PA Consulting using
Encanvas to rapidly build and publish a
‘pathfinder’ prototype of a system using
‘real data’ in just 7-days, so the customer
could evidence the case for a larger
project.
