This document discusses including radicalized individuals in learning institutions through an inclusive approach. It proposes developing a profiling tool for radical individuals to avoid bias, while retaining students' ethnic identities, cultures, and values. It also suggests establishing consultation councils and interfaith dialogue. Government support is needed for economic inclusion through school-to-work programs and public-private partnerships. Political inclusion could involve student governance and organizations, with oversight from the National Youth Commission. The goal is providing education for all while managing risks from radicalization.
The document provides an overview of terrorism, including:
1) Definitions of terrorism from different official sources emphasize premeditated politically motivated violence against civilians to create fear and influence audiences.
2) Terrorism is challenging to define and there are different types including state, dissident, religious, and criminal terrorism.
3) Ideologies like anarchism, Marxism, and fascism can motivate terrorist groups, and extremism is characterized by intolerance of opposing views.
While terrorism continues to make headlines around the world, some researchers have suggested that terrorists are mentally ill and have used labels such as psychopathic or sociopathic, narcissistic, paranoid and schizophrenic. Others have argued that there is no evidence to indicate that they are mentally ill, disordered, psychopathic or otherwise psychologically abnormal.
The Royal's Dr. AG Ahmed, Dr. Wadgy Loza and Dr. Pius Adesanmi discuss research findings and reflect on the new meanings and manifestations of terrorism and extremism in Canada and around the world.
The document discusses the Prevent duty for schools in the UK. It notes that there is an ongoing terrorist threat and that terrorist groups actively aim to recruit young people both in person and online. The Counter Terrorism and Security Act 2015 places a legal duty on public bodies like schools to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism. Schools are expected to promote fundamental British values, identify students at risk of radicalization, protect students from extremist materials online, and ensure robust safeguarding policies are in place. The document provides guidance on what to look out for, such as expressions of support for terrorism or personal crises, and outlines the simple process of notice, check, and share any concerns.
This document outlines Moorside High School's approach to preventing extremism and radicalization as required by the UK's Prevent strategy. It defines key terms like extremism, radicalization, and vulnerability. It explains the aims of Prevent to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. The school's responsibilities include risk assessments, promoting British values, safeguarding policies, and staff training. Teachers are instructed on how to refer concerns about students being drawn into extremism. The document provides contacts for the Staffordshire Police Prevent Team and other resources for further information.
There are two types of religious extremism discussed in the document: religious terrorists and religious cults. Religious terrorists embrace beliefs that allow violence and view outsiders as enemies of God, while cults require absolute loyalty and isolate members from their former lives.
