A helical gear has teeth in form of helix around the gear. Two such gears may be used to connect two parallel shafts in place of spur gears. The helixes may be right handed on one gear and left handed on the other. The pitch surfaces are cylindrical as in spur gearing, but the teeth instead of being parallel to the axis, wind around the cylinders helically like screw threads.

PPT on BALL SCREW TECHNOLOGY
A ball screw uses ball bearings to eliminate the friction between the nut and screw and lead screws do not. The screw and nut on a ball screw have matching helical grooves that allow ball bearings to re-circulate in those races and are typically semi-circular in shape to accept the spherical ball bearing. Lead screws use deeper helical threads and a mating nut, which is usually made of a polymer composite or bronze.
The rolling nature of ball screws eliminates the sliding friction associated with lead
screws.
Topics Covered:
THE ADVANTAGES/DISADVANTAGES OF BALL SCREWS.
BASIC DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LEAD SCREWS VS BALL SCREWS.
PRINCIPLE OF BALL SCREW.
PARTS OF BALL SCREW.
PRECAUTIONS WHEN USING BALL SCREW.
CHARACTERISTICS OF BALL SCREWS AND APPLICATION EXAMPLES.

Hierarchical Digital Twin of a Naval Power SystemKerry Sado
A hierarchical digital twin of a Naval DC power system has been developed and experimentally verified. Similar to other state-of-the-art digital twins, this technology creates a digital replica of the physical system executed in real-time or faster, which can modify hardware controls. However, its advantage stems from distributing computational efforts by utilizing a hierarchical structure composed of lower-level digital twin blocks and a higher-level system digital twin. Each digital twin block is associated with a physical subsystem of the hardware and communicates with a singular system digital twin, which creates a system-level response. By extracting information from each level of the hierarchy, power system controls of the hardware were reconfigured autonomously. This hierarchical digital twin development offers several advantages over other digital twins, particularly in the field of naval power systems. The hierarchical structure allows for greater computational efficiency and scalability while the ability to autonomously reconfigure hardware controls offers increased flexibility and responsiveness. The hierarchical decomposition and models utilized were well aligned with the physical twin, as indicated by the maximum deviations between the developed digital twin hierarchy and the hardware.

Understanding Inductive Bias in Machine LearningSUTEJAS
This presentation explores the concept of inductive bias in machine learning. It explains how algorithms come with built-in assumptions and preferences that guide the learning process. You'll learn about the different types of inductive bias and how they can impact the performance and generalizability of machine learning models.
The presentation also covers the positive and negative aspects of inductive bias, along with strategies for mitigating potential drawbacks. We'll explore examples of how bias manifests in algorithms like neural networks and decision trees.
By understanding inductive bias, you can gain valuable insights into how machine learning models work and make informed decisions when building and deploying them.
2. INTRODUCTION
National Engineering Industries Limited (NEI) is the flagship
company of the CK Birla Group, a conglomerate with a
turnover of US$ 1.6 billion. NEI was founded in 1946 by the
renowned industrialist, Shri B M Birla, under the name of
‘National Bearing Company Limited’. The company
commenced manufacturing in 1950 with an annual
production of 30,000 bearings in 19 sizes. With increasing
activities and grant of industrial licenses for other vital
industries and manufacturing, the name of the company was
changed in 1958 to ‘National Engineering Industries Ltd.’
retaining its original trade mark NBC.
5. BEARING
“Bearing” is derived from the verb “to bear” a
bearing being a machine element that allows one
part to bear (i.e., to support) another.
A bearing is a machine element that constrains
relative motion between moving parts to only the
desired motion.
It needs a good support to ensure stability and
frictionless rotation.
8. SPHERICAL ROLLER BEARINGS
A spherical roller bearings is a
rolling-element bearing that enables
spinning with low friction, and allows
angular imbalance.
Basically these bearings support a spinning base in
the inner band that may be out of alignment in
regard to the external band.
9. SPHERICAL ROLLER BEARINGS
CONSTRUCTION
Spherical roller bearings involve an inner ring with two
raceways prepared at a position to the bearing axis, an
external ring with a common spherical raceway, spherical
rollers, cages and in certain designs also internal guide
rings or center rings.
Inner raceways
Cage
Rollers
Lubrication
Holes
Outer raceways
10. SPHERICAL ROLLER BEARINGS
DESIGN
Mostly spherical bearings are developed with two
series of rollers, enabling them to take very large radial
and large axial loads. There are also styles with one
row of rollers, appropriate for reduced radial loads and
almost no axial loads.
12. SPHERICAL ROLLER BEARINGS
APPLICATION
Spherical bearings are generally used in countless
industrial applications, where heavy loads and
moderate speeds.
Spherical roller bearings used in Gear boxes, Wind
Turbines, Agricultural Machines, Paper Industry and
Textile Machine.
