This document provides an overview of navigating an online course site. It explains the main sections a student will encounter including the menu bar, news section, course home page, content section, classlist, discussions, dropbox, quizzes if applicable, grades, email functionality. It encourages students to explore all areas of the site and check for announcements regularly to stay up to date on course information and instructions. The document serves to orient students to the key areas of an online course site to set them up for success in the class.

2. When you first enter the course site, you will see a Menu Bar. Below it is a News Section. If it isn’t
already open, click on it to find Announcements from you college or your instructor.
Always check the news first before entering other parts of the course. Your instructor will post
important information there for you on a regular basis. You are expected to know what is posted and
to follow instructions when given.

4. Your menu bar will take you to all course resources!

5. Go to your Course Home Page

6. The CONTENT link takes you to a Table of
Contents to access all course materials: course
documents, links to course sections, and links to all
weekly assignments and readings.

11. The Classlist shows all students in the course.

12. From the Classlist, you can change your profile information by clicking on the
little dropdown arrow next to your name.
Select the box next to a name and in the Email box to send emails to anyone on
the list. You can also send Paged messages to others.

13. The Discussions Tab opens a page listing all open
discussions, where you will spend most of your
time in the course. Discussions can also be
accessed from the Table of Contents.

14. Be sure to read instructions in the Help Is
Here Forum on how to format your
discussion entries.

15. The Dropbox tab takes you to the section
where you will post all of your assignments. Be
sure to read the instructions in the Help Is
Here Forum on how to label your files in the
Dropbox.

16. Click on the assignment and upload your attachment.

17. You will probably not have quizzes in this
course. If you do, this tab opens that secction.

18. Your grades will be posted in this section. Only
you and your instructor will see your grades.

20. This link opens your
internal email. Always use
your internal email to
contact your instructor or
other students.
