This document discusses nature-based solutions and transformative change. It notes that persistent problems require system changes and transitions rather than simple solutions. Nature provides examples of biomimicry that can inspire innovations, like emulating shark skin to create non-stick surfaces or the kingfisher beak to reduce train turbulence. Examples are given of nature-based buildings, districts, food systems, and ecosystem stewardship projects in Flanders, including biomimetic hospitals, eco-districts, permaculture farms, and restoring tidal wetlands along the Scheldt river. The document advocates learning from nature's designs and processes to guide sustainable system innovations.

Software is being developed since decades without taking sustainability into consideration. This holds for its energy efficiency, that is the amount of energy software consumes while ensuring other system qualities like security, performance, reliability, etc. etc. Software un-sustainability, however, is becoming increasingly evident with the growing interest worldwide. Finally IT specialists are becoming aware that software solutions can, and should, be designed with sustainability concerns in mind. In doing so, they can create solutions that are technically more stable (hence requiring less modifications over time), target societal goals with a higher certainty, or help sustaining the business goals of both developing and consuming organizations. Everything sounds great. The real question is: how? How can we redirect software engineering practices toward sustainable software solutions? And how can we turn sustainability into a business so that companies will finally invest in it? This talk explores results and challenges in engineering software with a sustainability intent.

The future of sustainable development. It does not have to be taxing in term of resource scarcity and lack of wellbeing. A good example of sustainable development is given by St Lazare Railway station in Paris. This main infrastructure for the city and national logistic for transport has not changed so much since it was created early at the beginning of 19th century. The railways station, which used to serve a couple of stations and within the scope of city street limits between Paris ad London streets, has not changed so much since that date. However, in the early 19th until today, it has adapted to the dynamism of passenger and good trafic flows, in such a way that most design and architecture in a witness of ancient Paris. It is real sustainable development, which is helping to adapt to transformation and changes of our environment. On can expect, when designers and planners want to improve the wellbeing of the city, make it inclusive, resilient, safe and sustainable (Post 2015 Sustainable Development Goals 11), one should look at these ancient elements of the organization (internal and external) in such a way one does not destroy the old organization, but build new ones in continuity with past design. This process of changes, with a quality preservation help the present and future generation be balance in harmony with nature.
Green energy sourcing is becoming more attractive to industrial consumers as carbon reduction strategies are implemented and levelized costs of electricity from renewables are declining. Options for green energy sourcing range from Self-Generation to Power Purchase Agreements and use of Guarantees of Origin, optionally bundled in green power products. Options differ in technologies and locations of the green energy projects, ownership and risk structures as well as prices. Various initiatives have developed quality requirements and recommendations for green energy sourcing. Based on these criteria a credibility assessment of the options is carried out and mapped against indicative price ranges.
99.NINE Brochure. Ecological Life-Time SolutionsMonia T
99.NINE is a small but fast growing Italian start up.
This is the first brochure issued by the company in June 2014. By then, many things changed and additional services - like indoor and outdoor furniture - have been added to the list.

Food Security is one of the biggest challenges for the coming years worldwide as acknowledged by the SDG2: Zero Hunger. Food Security challenges are exacerbated by Climate change and impact first the most vulnerable segment of the population particularly in Africa.
The NL-Food Security Alliance (NL-FSA) is a community of mainly Dutch companies and institutions collaborating in creating tailor-made and sustainable solutions for the agri-water-food business. The NL-FSA delivers products and services from various expertises and contributes to the development of a profitable and sustainable agribusiness in Africa and Asia.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
Synthetic Fiber Construction in lab .pptxPavel ( NSTU)
Synthetic fiber production is a fascinating and complex field that blends chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. By understanding these aspects, students can gain a comprehensive view of synthetic fiber production, its impact on society and the environment, and the potential for future innovations. Synthetic fibers play a crucial role in modern society, impacting various aspects of daily life, industry, and the environment. ynthetic fibers are integral to modern life, offering a range of benefits from cost-effectiveness and versatility to innovative applications and performance characteristics. While they pose environmental challenges, ongoing research and development aim to create more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Understanding the importance of synthetic fibers helps in appreciating their role in the economy, industry, and daily life, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and innovation.
