Hurricane Gustav was a destructive hurricane in 2008 that caused over $6.6 billion in damages and killed 153 people in the United States and Caribbean. It was the second most destructive hurricane of that year. Gustav strengthened to a Category 4 hurricane before making landfall in Louisiana in the United States. The hurricane had widespread social, economic, environmental, and political impacts on the affected regions through damage to infrastructure, displacement of residents, impacts on industries and elections.
