Nationalism in Russia arose in the 19th century and promoted Russian culture and identity. It encouraged appreciation for Russian history, art, and literature. However, by the early 20th century, nationalism was declining as Russia struggled to modernize its economy and society. Growing inequality weakened patriotic support for the monarchy. When Russia entered World War I hoping to revive nationalism, the war effort's failures further undermined the tsar's popularity and led to his overthrow in the Russian Revolution.

Militarism Alliances Imperialism Nationalism
Class, the powder keg that ignited Europe was the assassination of the Archduke Franz
Ferdinand. Nationalist Serbs- the Black Hand assassinated him. They believed in Pan Slavism.
What is Pan Slavism? Why did Russia enter WWI? Who fought on which sides during WWI?
Solution
Pan-Slavism, a development which solidified in the mid-nineteenth century, is the political
philosophy worried about the headway of respectability and solidarity for the Slavic-talking
people groups. Its fundamental effect happened in the Balkans, where non-Slavic domains had
ruled the South Slavs for a considerable length of time. These were chiefly the Byzantine
Empire, Austria-Hungary (both as discrete entities for the vast majority of the period), the
Ottoman Empire, and Venice.
The Pan-Slavism development soon went up against political hints, and in June 1848, while the
Austrian Empire was debilitated by transformation, the Czech history specialist František
Palacký assembled a Slav congress in Prague. Comprising of agents of every Slav nationality
controlled by the Austrians, the congress was proposed to compose agreeable endeavors among
them to compel the Emperor to change his government into an alliance of equivalent people
groups under a vote based Habsburg run the show.
In spite of the fact that the congress had minimal commonsense impact, the development stayed
dynamic, and by the 1860s it turned out to be especially mainstream in Russia, to which
numerous Pan-Slavs searched for authority and also for insurance from Austro-Hungarian and
Turkish run the show. Russian Pan-Slavists, be that as it may, changed the hypothetical bases of
the development. Embracing the Slavophile thought that western Europe was profoundly and
socially bankrupt and that it was Russia\'s noteworthy mission to revive Europe by increasing
political strength over it, the Pan-Slavists included the idea that Russia\'s central goal couldn\'t be
satisfied without the help of other Slav people groups, who must be freed from their Austrian and
Turkish experts and joined into a Russian-ruled Slav confederation. In spite of the fact that the
Russian government did not authoritatively bolster this view, some essential individuals from its
remote division, including its agents at Constantinople and Belgrade, were fervent Pan-Slavists
and prevailing with regards to drawing both Serbia and Russia into wars against the Ottoman
Empire in 1876– 77. At the point when endeavors were made in the mid twentieth century to call
new Pan-Slav congresses and resuscitate the development, the nationalistic contentions among
the different Slav people groups kept their successful cooperation.
Russia entered WW1 due to following reasons:
Russia was drawn into WW1 by similar stumbles and habits that tormented her neighboring
European nations, radical rivalry, harmful patriotism, military haughtiness, and insufficient trust

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
2. Nationalism in Russia arose during the
nineteenth century, and it promoted the
appreciation and celebration of Russian
culture and history. It also encourages the
development and strengthening of a Russian
cultural identity and national unity.
3. Peter I’s brought westernization to Russia.
Russian national costume, hairstyle,
discouraged. Fine for wearing a beard.
The nobility preferred to speak the French
rather than Russian even in private.
WESTERNIZATION
4. 19TH CENTURY
• Saw a revival in Russian Nationalism.
• A motto, stating “Orthodoxy, Autocracy, and
Nationality, “adopted by Emperor Nicholas I as
official doctrine.
5. Russian Nationalism
Three components of Uvarov’s triad were:
• Orthodoxy – Orthodox Christianity and protection of Russian
Orthodox Church.
• Autocracy – unconditional loyalty to House of Romanov in return
for paternalist protection for all social estates.
• Nationality – recognition of the state-founding role of the Russian
nationality.
7. Closely related to revival in Russian Art,
Works concerning Russian history,
mythology and fairy tales.
Romantic nationalism inspired
paintings, Vasnetsov Bladimir fresco in
Kiev by Victor Vasnetsov.

8. POETRY
Russian Poet Tyutchev:
Moscow and peter’s grad, the city of Constantine, these are
the capitals of Russian kingdom. But where is their limit? And
where are their frontiers to the north, the east, the south and
the setting sun?
The fate will reveal this future generations. Seven island seas
and seven great rivers from the Nile to the Neva, from the
Elbe to China, from the Volga to the Euphrates, from Ganges
to the Danube. That’s the Russian Kingdom, and let it be
forever, just as the Spirit foretold and Daniel prophesied.
9. PAN-SLAVISM
Pan-Slavism, an idea of unity ad friendship of all
Slavic and Orthodox Christian nations, gained
popularity in the mid to late 19th century.
Pan-Slavism was fueled and, in turn, was the fuel,
in Russia’s numerous wars against Ottoman Empire
with the goal to liberate Orthodox nations, such as
Bulgars, Serbs, and Greeks, from Muslim rule.
10. PAN-SLAVISM CONT
• The final goal was Constantinople, (Istanbul) the Russian Empire still
considered itself the “Third Rome” and saw its duty in freeing the
“Second Rome.”
• Pan-Slavism had a key role in Russia’s entry into World War I as well,
since it is the 1914 invasion of Serbia by Austria-Hungary that
triggered Russia’s response.
11. DECLINE OF NATIONALISM
• As the 20th century was approaching, Russia was
attempting to catch up to the Industrial
Revolution.
• The already vast gap of wealth between the rich
elite and the mass poor had grown even more.
• This caused patriotic enthusiasm to decline.
Never forget enlightenment.
12. REVOLUTION
• With World War I, the Empire attempted to revive the
national spirit. As the war effort failed so did the popularity of
Nicholas II. He was overthrown by the Russian Revolution.
• In the subsequent civil war, the loosely allied monarchist and
anti-communist White Army continued to carry the banner of
Russian nationalism until they were eliminated by the
communist revolutionaries. (Red Army)
