Narrative structure refers to the form used to tell a story in a film through a sequence of connected events. A typical narrative structure includes an exposition to introduce characters and setting, a rising action of main conflict, a climax turning point, falling action as most action occurs to resolve conflict, and a resolution restoring order. Todorov's narrative structure identifies an initial equilibrium, a disruption emerging as conflict, recognition of the disruption by characters, an attempt to repair the disruption, and achievement of a new equilibrium.
