NAPLAN An Investigation by Kate Callaghan, Courtney Tadgell and Jo Gorman
DoL 4: Complex Reasoning Process of Investigation This helped us to organise our information using a graphic organiser.
Curriculum Corporation โ€œ Hey lets test all Aussie kids on the same thing!โ€ โ€œ Thatโ€™s a great idea! Then we can compare the results and the dumbest state shouts the bar tab at the next Curriculum Corporation meeting!โ€
PMI We hear you! Example PMI: Chocolate Plus Minuses Interesting points Nice taste. Melts in your mouth. Lots of variety. 99% fat full! Easy to eat. Canโ€™t say no! Made from a bean. White, milk & dark. Easy to CRAVE!
How will I survive 3 days of TESTING!!!!
Monitor studentsโ€™ progression
What Do People Already Know? It is a National Test for students in years 3, 5, 7 and 9. Tested on reading, writing. language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy
My Interviews with concerned parents Johanna Gorman โ€œ I think it is a good thing, having their stage of learning benchmarked in the middle of the primary years, so something can be done to address any weaknesses before it becomes a bit too lateโ€ (2008).
Parent Opinions โ€œ NAPLAN is a waste of time - it tells me nothing about the development of my child and is used to cement division in our communityโ€ ( Robertson , 2009.)
GREAT JOB!
โ€œ Lets Introduce NAPLAN!โ€ โ€œ Hmm I donโ€™t know..โ€
โ€œ high-stakes standardised testing contravenes credible academic research which shows little benefit to students, schools and education systemsโ€ The AEU says:
โ€œ Does that mean Iโ€™m exempt?โ€ โ€œ Or me?โ€
โ€œ There will be NO talking during this test!โ€
Benefits of peer assessment Broadening their knowledge and understanding as a result of the wide response they would receive in regards to the work produced. The opportunity to critically appraise othersโ€™ work and in turn develop social and academic skills. Extends studentsโ€™ understanding and ability to work collaboratively with others.
