Concepts Found in Jainism Essay
Concepts found in Jainism have no real origin, but have been attributed with its closest founder
Nataputta Vardamana, later to be known by his followers as Mahavira, is credited with taking ideas
from Hinduism separating into this new religion. Jainism emphasizes the Hindu belief of: ahimsa (non
injury to life) and moksha (release from the endless cycle of birth, death, and rebirth through
asceticism (Lewis, 2009, pp. 123 124). These beliefs are incorporated into their lives and have
profound effects in the public lives of Jains. The belief system of Jainism rejected the caste system and
knowledge of the Vedas which was a primary belief of Hinduism. The teachings of Jainism do not

Generally, all Jains seek to follow the first three vows as much as possible; those who enter the
monastic order keep all five (Lewis, 2009, p. 126). When these pillars are applied it opens the door for
the release from the cycle of birth, life, and death, which is the goal of Jainism. Without keeping all
five of these pillars it is believed that this cycle cannot be broken.
Daily Routine of a Jain Monk Jain Monks start their day homeless, naked, and without owning any
possessions. The Jain sect called the Svetambara (literally, the white clad ) does not observe nudity in
their daily worship and wear white robes; the second sect, called the Digambara (literally, the sky clad
) which observe total nudity in the devotion to the religion (Lewis, 2009, pp. 126 127). Then, the
monk finds an open patch of earth without any insects, and performs a form of personal hygiene,
which consists of washing his head and feet, while taking a complete bath is not permissible. After
this, the monk returns to the monastic chamber where he studies the sacred texts of Jainism. He sits in
meditation to identify his faults such as negligence in behavior towards living creatures (Jain
Ascetism, para. 4).
Then he proceeds to the nearby temple to pay devotions to the jina (one who has conquered the
worldly passions by one s own strenuous efforts) (Sangave, 2006). After completing these devotions
he returns to shravakas (a local Jain family) where he eats. During this time there

Black-American School Closures
A byproduct of accountability standards and school choice, school closures are seemingly inevitable
for public schools in urban areas across the United States. In the school year 2011 2012, there were
1,840 school closures in the United States and those closed schools enrolled and educated
approximately 301,000 in the previous school year (National Center for Education Statistics, 2014).
Though school closures widely affect all students, school closures have an even greater affect on
Black students educational experiences. A Black American proverb says, when White America catches
a cold, Black American gets pneumonia . That is, what could be a temporary hardship for some White
Americans could essentially be deadly for most Black Americans. ... Show more content on

Bush s No Child Left Behind (NCLB) federal policy. Both Clinton and Bush administrations regulated
freedom of choice within their educational policies. Clinton s Goals 2000 increased standards for
student scores within core subjects. Legislation targeting Title I, required States and school districts to
turn around low performing schools, and in 1993, public charter schools increased to over 2, 000
(www.clinton5.nara.gov). Bush s No Child Left Behind s structure demanded high stakes testing and
created provision for privatization of public education, as well as school choice . No Child Left
Behind not only increased the Clinton s strong accountability disposition, but it also superimposed a
new set of accountability rules that would adversely affect public schools (Porter, Linn, Trimble,
2005). One significant requirement of NCLB is that each state must adopt challenging academic
content standards and challenging student achievement standards. Additionally, states must establish
Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) goals for each year from 2002 to 2014 that would culminate in the
2014 goal that all American students would be at or above the proficient student academic
achievement standard (P.L. 107 110, 2001). When local educational agencies (LEA) failed to meet
their state s AYP goals, in addition to other criteria, they [LEA] faced the inevitability of losing their
accredited status and eventually face school

Cardiomyopathy Case Study
Cardiac abnormalities are often detected during physical examination of hyperthyroid
cats1
. These abnormalities are diverse and can appear as subtle, clinically inconsequential
myocardial changes but also as severe changes which could be associated with the development
of heart failure leading to death. Often times, it is difficult to determine whether cardiac
abnormalities that persist after the treatment and resolution of hyperthyroidism are the result of
the hyperthyroidism or a primary cardiac disease1
.
The most common form of primary myocardial disease in cats is hypertrophic
cardiomyopathy (HCM), which is the hypertrophy of a nondilated ventricle that occurs when
there is no metabolic stimuli or altered blood flow such as hyperthyroidism ... Show more content on

Over time, cats may develop an enlargement or thickening of the left ventricle2
. Both lesions of
the heart may result in echocardiographic changes which are indistinguishable from one another,
and therefore echocardiogram is not always a useful tool in differentiating between primary and
secondary cardiomyopathy.
This paper evaluated plasma concentrations of two cardiac biomarkers; N terminal
probrain natriuretic peptide (NT proBNP) and cardiac troponin I (cTNI). NT proBNP is secreted
in response to myocardial stretch, and cTNI is released from the cytosol of damaged
cardiomyocytes2
. These biomarkers were evaluated in the plasma to identify if a possible
correlation between plasma concentrations of the biomarkers and cardiomyopathies existed.
Previous studies in hyperthyroid humans have shown that increased plasma concentrations of
NT proBNP and T4, which stimulates BPN release from cardiomyocytes, indicating a change in
the heart due to hyperthyroidism3
. No such study has been done to compare plasma

Brave New World Vs The Dispossessed Analysis
Utopia offers us a glance at an alternative world, something that is necessary to protect against armed
conflict, poverty, and hunger all of which are dilemmas in our modern day world. Although these are
just a few of the complications that persist in our world, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley and The
Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin give us a look into some utopian societies, fundamentally built on the
same idea, to become a perfect utopia, but vastly different. The World States in Brave New World
achieves the most utopian society compared to the civilizations in The Dispossessed, since a perfect
utopian society includes a government that provides Freedom, Equality, and increases stability.
Freedom is a right allowing people to speak, act, and pursue their goals without unnecessary
restrictions. Thus granting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Case Of Firosa Spolka V Fairbarn (1943)
Contracts are defined as a legally or mutually binding agreement between two or more parties that is
intended to be enforceable by law. Ideally, when a contract is entered into by both parties, there should
be no complications involved throughout the duration of the contract but this is not always the case. A
discharge of contract is when a situation arises that causes the termination of the contract. One of the
manners in which a contract can be discharged is to be discharged by frustration., this can occur if
there is a change in circumstances after the contract has been made which is no fault of either of the
parties involved, which then renders the contract impossible to carry out or deprives the contract of its
commercial purpose. The doctrine of frustration does not apply if the agreed contract contains
provisions dealing with foreseen events that may occur. A contract may be discharged by frustration
only when something occurs after the contract ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the Myth of Zeus is the rise and fall of the Gold Man. There is no information given on the originating

Jazz Music Performance Review Essay
On the evening of October 18th, 2015 I attended the live Jazz music performance of Nilson Matta s
Brazilian Voyage . The performance was held at Dizzy s Club Coca Cola, located in the Jazz Lincoln
Center, in New York City. Nilson Matta is a Brazilian bassist, composer, and producer. Matta is
considered to be one of the greatest bass musicians in the world, and has earned great reputation for
his unique sounds (Nilson). The staff members were very welcoming, and were all dressed in black
attire. The venue had dim lighting, and each table had a lighted candle; which created a nice romantic
and intimate atmosphere. Behind the stage, there is a spectacular scene that overlooks Central Park,
and the city. At the beginning of the performance, Nilson Matta, and three other musicians walked up
on stage, and introduced themselves. The musicians were, Mauricio Zottarelli (drummist), Craig
Handy (saxophonist/flautist), Helen Sung (pianist), and of course Nilson Matta (bassist). Matta
commenced the performance with a piece called Para Ti (For You), which he dedicated to Rio de
Jainero. Matta began to play the double bass instrument. Although, it was huge in size, the timbre was
dull. Following this, the rest of the musicians played along, creating beautiful harmonies, and
Brazilian rhythms. The sounds of each instrument were clear in this piece, but the unique sound of the
saxophone played by Handy, stood out the most. Helen Sung, also played the piano with great
intensity and passion. She ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparison of Java, JavaScript, Java Applets and Java Beans
Introduction Starting back in the early 1990 s with the introduction of Java to the computer scene there
has been many updates and advances in how languages interact with web based programs. In this
paper we are going to highlight several areas of several different Java flavors. The flavors we are
addressing are Java, JavaScript, Java Applets and JavaBeans. We will discuss their history, features,
usage and syntax and finally follow up with a chart providing a comparison of the different Java
architectures.
History

JavaScript was commonly used to manipulate images and document contents. There were early issues
with JavaScript; security flaws, lack of development tools and often criticized for being too unlike
Java, or too much like Perl. (Champeon, 2001) However, JavaScript took on a life all its own and in
some circles was written off due to its simpleness, its security flaws and to some extent because it
could only be tested within the browser environment.
A Java Applet is a small program written in Java, which can be downloaded to any computer. The
applet is usually embedded in an HTML page on a Web site and can be executed from within a
browser. JavaSoft, the current name of the company which oversees the development of the Java
language, was founded in January of 1996, and a few months later released the Java Development Kit
(JDK) version 1.0. (Youmans, 1997) The concept of an applet came out of the creation on the Java
language. It enabled users to produce programs named applets which could be transmitted and run
over the Internet, a somewhat different end product from what was originally envisioned back at the
beginning of the decade. (Youmans, 1997) Java Applets came about as a requirement for adding
functionalities to HTML documents,

All Things Not Being Equal
All Things Not Being Equal An ongoing debate continues in the academic and scientific world of
psychology in regards to the measurement of hypotheses, theories, and phenomenon. For the
researcher, the argument is worrisome as well as tedious in nature. Most have the desire for the
greatest statisticians to arrive at a consensus or standard, and allow the remainder to return to research
business as usual. Very few if any researchers enjoy, comprehend, or desire to be knee deep in what a
p value really means, other than the significance of the effect is less than .05. A statistically significant
result allows for a positive hypothesis and a possible publication. However, an honest interpretation of
statistical data would be more apt to produce a flawed literary publication that could be less than
accurate. For this reason, psychology implores replication as the gold standard for research results.
Reliability and validity are the foundational aspects of psychological science; without replication,
there is little evidence to support the construct tested. Statistically speaking, results from research
must be available and empirically evaluated to determine their merit (Thomas Hersen, 2011, p. 9).
Thus, when new measures of statistical inference are used, the same evaluative process is applied. An
example opined from Iverson, Wagenmakers, and Lee (2010) offer a paradoxical example applied to a
new statistic that could not stand up to the scientific muster of replication.

and for the lead character to have her own voice and who defies the male dominance of the 19th
century. It was uncommon for a women of the 19th century to find joy in finding out that her husband
was suddenly killed. The lines Free! Body and soul free! (Paragraph 14) suggest that she felt trapped
being with her husband and now that he s dead she s finally free. This is something that I m sure many
American women in this time period felt. In Walt Whitman s O Captain! My Captain! he uses a lot of
symbolism to relate to the United States at the time

How Does Harry Potter Show Courage
In this unit on Myth and Legend we read many different themes including courage and strength,
compassion and sacrificial love, warning against vanity and gossip and tragic consequence. The one
theme that stuck with me is courage.
I feel that courage is important because if we don t teach that courage is a good thing then, we would
be stuck doing the same thing everyone else would be doing with only courageous enjoying life and
they would most likely control the people that do not have courage. some of the greatest inventions
happened on accident and some people discouraged them for inventing, but they still had enough
courage in themselves and their idea and made things that would change lives. Also amazing things

Installing An Ide Disk On A Linux System
The purpose of this document is to detail the various steps needed to install, make ready, and mount an
IDE disk on a Linux system. The process starts first with the cabling and physical installation of the
disk. Next it is key to ensure the computer s BIOS is properly configured to allow access to the drive.
Once the machine can see the physical drive the next step is to prepare the drive to accept data by
partitioning the drive for the desired disk layout. Finally, the drive is mounted within the filesystem
hierarchy so it may be accessed by the end user. Installing the Drive The first step in this process is the
physical installation of the drive. While the process of installing an IDE drive is more involved than a
SATA drive it is still easily accomplished if a few precautious are followed. The first step is to
configure the jumper on the back of the IDE drive. Refer to the sticker on the drive itself or the
manufacturer data sheet to identify the correct jumper position. Move the jumper on the back of the
drive to the master position. There may be a CS or CSEL which stands for Cable Select. This should
allow the computer to make the assignment based on cable position however this requires a special
IDE cable (Chukov, n.d.). Simply setting the jumper itself is a simpler and delivers more consistent
results. The second step is to identify the IDE headers on the computer motherboard with the help of
the computer or motherboard manual. Without access to the

Mayan Farming Techniques
Most Ancient Mayans were farmers and are famous for the farming techniques they developed. These
techniques were so popular among the Mayans that they are still used in their communities today, over
two thousand year later. Most of these ancient communities had a communal farm for the elderly,
widowers, and sick people. The different families took turns working these plots to help the less
fortunate. Each family group had its own plot or plots of land that they farmed for their own family
unit. The Mayans divided roles between the men and women. The men were hunters. The women
worked the farm, cooked the food, raised the children, took care of the animals, and wove the families

In those areas where there was not an abundance of farm land, the Mayans had to be resourceful. They

They had to put a lot of thought into the way they built these terraces so that there was not a loss of
crops due to water run off and erosion. Many times there were canals close by these terraces to help
irrigate the crops. These terraces allowed the Mayan s to do something called Multi cropping. This is
the practice of planting and harvesting a plot of land multiple times a year. With canals and dams
around these terraces the Mayans had water in these areas year round allowing them to farm year

Potatoes At Room Temperature
Introduction (background information, purpose and hypothesis)
We know that enzymes are protein that helps to breakdown different molecules. But what if enzymes
can be breakdown? Most enzymes need homeostasis environment to survive. Well we all know that as
the amount of temperature increases the less the enzymes .Enzymes can be denatured using
temperature, PH and salt concentration. As we know that protein structure are determined by DNA
coding. We used temperature to see if increasing or decreasing temperature affected the amount of
enzyme produced. So when the temperature is increased there will be more amount of enzymes
denature due to high temperature and it would be opposite of temperature was dropped. And a
denatured protein is biologically inactive hence it needs a homeostasis environment. Hydrogen
peroxide is used for metabolic processes. The main purpose of this lab was to see that if increase in
temperature resulted in denaturing of enzymes and comparing the time for h2o2 to bubble when using
apples, onions and potatoes at room temperature. So the main questions for this lab were how does
temperature affect the amount of enzyme present in potatoes? Will there be any change in amount of
bubbles produced if apples and onions were used with potatoes at room temperature?

Following the Second World War, Canada has made various efforts to improve its peacekeeping

some mistakes along the way. A few examples of Canada s efforts within the last 60 years include the

Feminist Criticism Of The Story Hills Like White Elephants
A Feminist criticism on how Males and Females are portrayed in Hills like White Elephants In Ernst
Hemingway s story Hills like White Elephants, the male and female characters are portrayed in a
stereotypical male dominated relationship. The male main character the man is portrayed as the
influential character who is subtly persuading the main female character. The female main character
the girl is portrayed as the passive and impressable character who can be swayed by the man . There
are several examples of how the man uses his dominance in the relationship to persuade the girl to
make a decision on whether or not to get an abortion. The first example is seen when the man starts

Universal Love By Stephen T. Asma
The idea of universal love is one that is prevalent in the media. With the news filled with grim stories
and horror many people are calling to the idea of loving everyone. Tensions are high concerning race
relations, gender discrimination, and sexual orientation. Many in the general public are calling for
humanity to embrace humanity. Many in the general public are asking why we can t just love one
another ? Stephen T. Asma tackles this idea of love in his article published in the New York Times.
Asma discusses two different ideas about universal love before offering his own take on the subject.
Just as Asma states, universal love is a myth and closer personal relationships should be favored.
The first argument given toward universal love is that humanity should care for and love for those
close to them, but that humans also have the ability to care for and love everyone around them. The
author mentions two different and important social theorists that believe in this theory. The first is
Peter Singer. Singer explains his idea in his book The Expanding Circle . He believes that it is a
person s ethical duty to help those in their closest circle, of family and friends. But he also believes
that that circle grows and expands to encompass other individuals as well, because our communities
and societies are just one small part of many with the same needs and wants as us. Singer invokes
mathematics to explain the circle should indeed grow to include others. That is until we

Could you imagine a world where robots take over the world? People are afraid that in the future,
robots will take over the human race like in the movie iRobot. Robots will play a very important role
in our future and they are already are. According to Apple co founder Steve Wozniak states that a
robotic future powered by artificial intelligence would be scary and very bad for people and that
robots would get rid of the slow humans , Wozniak has staged a U turn and says he now thinks robots
taking over would be good for the human race. They re going to be smarter than us and if they re

Big companies like Google are signing a 60 year, $1.16 billion lease Moffett Naval Airfield in San
Francisco the historic Hangar One as part of its expansion into robotics, aviation and space
exploration. Kyrre Glette, Associate Professor at Oslo University s Department of Informatics states In
the future, robots must be able to solve tasks in deep mines on distant planets, in radioactive disaster
areas, in hazardous landslip areas and on the sea bed beneath the Antarctic. These environments are so
extreme that no human being can cope. Everything needs to be automatically controlled. For an
example a robot is entering the wreckage of a nuclear power plant. It finds a staircase that no one has
thought of. The robot takes a picture. The picture is analyzed. The arms of one of the robots is fitted
with a printer. This produces a new robot, or a new part for the existing robot, which enables it to
negotiate the stairs. This is the primary example of what the future could hold with robotic technology.
You can believe those who say robots will over run the world in the future, but robots have multiple
purposes that can do everything and will benefit us. Therefore, robots will play a very important part
in our future to do the impossible. Breakthroughs will come quickly for robotic innovations.
Driverless cars and new space information may take decades to come, while other completely
unexpected robotic applications could

Christianity In America Research Paper
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it
stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Those are the words that are
said every day by students from elementary school to high school. But these words are unfair to many
in America who either do not believe in God or, even if they do, desire a clear separation between
church and state. This author will argue that the phrase Under God does not belong in the Pledge of
Allegiance of the United States of America.
Some people claim that this is a Christian nation. However, Christianity is not the official religion in
America, even though it may be the most popular. Although 71% of America are Christian, the other

God is a part of American culture? That seems unfair to believers in other parts of the world, and
Religion is only a significant part of everyday life if you believe. This isn t to say that Christianity is
bad, just that non theistic people are not treated fairly. Tradition is important, but sometimes tradition
should be forgotten. Around that time religion has played a significant role in the founding of
America, and even the world. For example: In God we Trust or God Bless America, or even saying Oh
my God. There is no denying that God and religion has played a large role in the formation of
America. Even still, that was back when Christianity was the only thing that people knew. In God we
Trust was put on coins in 1864, and God Bless America was written in 1918, and Oh my God was
used in a letter to Winston Churchill in 1917. That was the past, when there was so much oppression
and hate in America. This could be one of the next steps toward a better and more accepting America.

Using The Computers For Personal Websites
It has come to my attention as well as the Deputy Chief, that there has been an incident that involved
the misconduct use of the computers for personal websites. The resources that we have in the office is
strictly for official use only, and not for personal usage. As of today myself and the Deputy Chief of
Police have decided that there will a zero tolerance policy when it comes to personal use of the
computers. The zero tolerance policy is there for the protection of you and the police department. We
are striving to deal with this issue in a fast and organized fashion to ensure that any and all parties
involved will be able to turn back to work as soon as possible. In addition, with this in mind all person
s identification numbers and passwords are being recorded, every time that you log onto the
computers and input your identification number and password will be displayed to the computer
analysis. And once the report is in it will be sent to me at the end of the day, and you will be notified at
the end of your shift. This is established by you signing off on the report, this states that you are
consenting to using the computer at such time and day. Once it is established that your identification
number is being used for improper usage of the computers, there will no longer be a formal warning.
You will automatically receive a suspension without pay until such event is resolved, and you will

Paul Lawrence
Paul Lawrence theory explains about the human nature and it describes about the four factors that will
affect the human nature and these factors are bond ,acquire, learn and defend. These factors also called
drives but the question is this what drives an individual.Every individual has several drives but all
drives cannot be satisfied at a time.
The first drive is acquire, and it describes how a human improve his status by acquiring experiences
and it is very common. It describes how human compete with others in his life like employees of the
same company have competitions with other employees for different positions and salary.
Next is bonding,as it is very important in making relationships .The bond is considered to be strong as
it will make by mutual understanding and sharing.Employees working in a group have the advantage
of managing the organization in a better way.
The third factor is drive to learn and it describes that if a human has willingness of learning the things
in the environment then he will come to know that how things are working .If he has a job then he has
the opportunity of developing his knowledge in his field.
The fourth factor is defend,it describes how humans protect themselves if they feel any harm on their
believes and experiences

The Black Power Movement
Black Power was a call to action of black people to deny an established racist society, to acknowledge
their ancestors and history and to unite their black communities to gain the power to make a change.
The SNCC believed that in order to develop black power they needed to close their ranks and organize
themselves before reaching for something else. It encouraged people to take charge of their own lives
and organizations rather than relying on whites influence. Black Power was a build up of strength and
power in black communities to change previous white institutions and power structures that have been
established for hundreds of years. Blacks did not want black visibility but rather a chance to change
society for the better. The steps of black power were more radical than their predecessors. These
included a reshaping and redefining of the black community. SNCC and Carmichael believed in order
to rebuild the black community a sense of unity and togetherness needed to be created. Black Power
would make blacks acknowledge their past and their roots and develop a new consciousness that
would establish their role in their communities. Another step was political modernization in which
blacks questioned and challenged old values of the white power institution to incorporate their own
values. This political ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Simple Gift
Understanding nourishes belonging... a lack of understanding prevents it.
Demonstrate how your prescribed text and ONE other related text of your own choosing represent this
interpretation of belonging.
Belonging is primarily about acceptance and developing a connection and identity. Belonging implies
an understanding of the needs of the individual and the group and negotiating a way towards
acceptance of those needs. Conversely, exclusion emerges when the individual and the group fail to
understand each other. Steven Herrick s The Simple Gift is the story of three protagonists who develop
friendships and ultimately change their perceptions of self. Comparatively, John Duigan s The Year
My Voice Broke explores how the relationships ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Herrick shows that a relationship has centred Billy. His life has direction, routine and meaning. Billy s
identity at first was seen as a loner, he was isolated and a rebel. His mother was absent and his
relationship with his father was intimidating. The lack of connection to family extends to Old Bill,
whose daughter and wife died, and to Freya and Danny, who do not have the guidance of responsible
adults. Herrick symbolises his disconnection and loneliness in I didn t go inside for hours./I looked
through the back window/watching him/reading the paper/in front of the television/as if nothing
happened . Billy s sense of belonging allows him to reforms his identity. Herrick shows this by
juxtaposing Billy eating like a hobo in the first person narration in And wait for the family of five to
leave. / I can see dessert/ waiting for me and later eating like a refined mature adult via the descriptive
language in with a white tablecloth/and napkins/ and proper cutlery and plates. Comparatively, Freya
grows up after Danny helps her deal with her miscarriage. This highlights that a person s identity is
defined by their connection to others. Both composers show an understanding of each other, allow
them to nourish one another.
Belonging is as a complex process by which people develop links with others, places and things. It is
focused on acceptance and developing a connection and identity

Comparing Vickory s Pecola And Cholly Breedlove
The problem about Cholly is that he has seen in his daughter everything he has hated in himself. When
he abuses, rapes, and destroys her innocence, he abuses and hurts himself as a helpless man whom his
little child embodies. Considering his past, Cholly s rape of his daughter makes more sense. Pecola
represents Cholly as a child. She is an ugly little helpless girl who is rejected by everyone. Whenever
cholly sees her, he remembers his childhood as a helpless child . Being rejected by his father when he

While Pecola Breedlove represents weakness and helplessness, Claudia represents strength and

A couple of years ago, he wrote an article called Lessons My Sons Taught Me. In this article Chiarella
discusses various things he learned about shopping just by watching his sons shop. Here we see
Chiarella using the concept of learning through observation again. The fact that Chiarella uses this
concept in real life makes his argument a lot more reliable, because we see that he is not just writing
about this concept he is actually using it in real life. In the article we also learn that he has two sons.
His older son is eighteen and his younger son is sixteen. What that tells us about him is that although
he drinks, he was still able to build a family. He has mastered alcohol indeed. Additionally, he also
writes about many different topics such as money, life, sports ,music, and psychology. This shows us
that his life does not revolve around alcohol. He is interested in many other things. He writes about
different forms of entertainment, unlike Bukowski who only wrote about the struggles of life. This is
another great example for young drinkers. They must see that if they can master alcohol, they can still

  • 2. Concepts Found in Jainism Essay Concepts found in Jainism have no real origin, but have been attributed with its closest founder Nataputta Vardamana, later to be known by his followers as Mahavira, is credited with taking ideas from Hinduism separating into this new religion. Jainism emphasizes the Hindu belief of: ahimsa (non injury to life) and moksha (release from the endless cycle of birth, death, and rebirth through asceticism (Lewis, 2009, pp. 123 124). These beliefs are incorporated into their lives and have profound effects in the public lives of Jains. The belief system of Jainism rejected the caste system and knowledge of the Vedas which was a primary belief of Hinduism. The teachings of Jainism do not focus on various Gods, worship, or sacrifice; but a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Generally, all Jains seek to follow the first three vows as much as possible; those who enter the monastic order keep all five (Lewis, 2009, p. 126). When these pillars are applied it opens the door for the release from the cycle of birth, life, and death, which is the goal of Jainism. Without keeping all five of these pillars it is believed that this cycle cannot be broken. Daily Routine of a Jain Monk Jain Monks start their day homeless, naked, and without owning any possessions. The Jain sect called the Svetambara (literally, the white clad ) does not observe nudity in their daily worship and wear white robes; the second sect, called the Digambara (literally, the sky clad ) which observe total nudity in the devotion to the religion (Lewis, 2009, pp. 126 127). Then, the monk finds an open patch of earth without any insects, and performs a form of personal hygiene, which consists of washing his head and feet, while taking a complete bath is not permissible. After this, the monk returns to the monastic chamber where he studies the sacred texts of Jainism. He sits in meditation to identify his faults such as negligence in behavior towards living creatures (Jain Ascetism, para. 4). Then he proceeds to the nearby temple to pay devotions to the jina (one who has conquered the worldly passions by one s own strenuous efforts) (Sangave, 2006). After completing these devotions he returns to shravakas (a local Jain family) where he eats. During this time there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Black-American School Closures A byproduct of accountability standards and school choice, school closures are seemingly inevitable for public schools in urban areas across the United States. In the school year 2011 2012, there were 1,840 school closures in the United States and those closed schools enrolled and educated approximately 301,000 in the previous school year (National Center for Education Statistics, 2014). Though school closures widely affect all students, school closures have an even greater affect on Black students educational experiences. A Black American proverb says, when White America catches a cold, Black American gets pneumonia . That is, what could be a temporary hardship for some White Americans could essentially be deadly for most Black Americans. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bush s No Child Left Behind (NCLB) federal policy. Both Clinton and Bush administrations regulated freedom of choice within their educational policies. Clinton s Goals 2000 increased standards for student scores within core subjects. Legislation targeting Title I, required States and school districts to turn around low performing schools, and in 1993, public charter schools increased to over 2, 000 (www.clinton5.nara.gov). Bush s No Child Left Behind s structure demanded high stakes testing and created provision for privatization of public education, as well as school choice . No Child Left Behind not only increased the Clinton s strong accountability disposition, but it also superimposed a new set of accountability rules that would adversely affect public schools (Porter, Linn, Trimble, 2005). One significant requirement of NCLB is that each state must adopt challenging academic content standards and challenging student achievement standards. Additionally, states must establish Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) goals for each year from 2002 to 2014 that would culminate in the 2014 goal that all American students would be at or above the proficient student academic achievement standard (P.L. 107 110, 2001). When local educational agencies (LEA) failed to meet their state s AYP goals, in addition to other criteria, they [LEA] faced the inevitability of losing their accredited status and eventually face school ... • 4. Cardiomyopathy Case Study Cardiac abnormalities are often detected during physical examination of hyperthyroid cats1 . These abnormalities are diverse and can appear as subtle, clinically inconsequential myocardial changes but also as severe changes which could be associated with the development of heart failure leading to death. Often times, it is difficult to determine whether cardiac abnormalities that persist after the treatment and resolution of hyperthyroidism are the result of the hyperthyroidism or a primary cardiac disease1 . The most common form of primary myocardial disease in cats is hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), which is the hypertrophy of a nondilated ventricle that occurs when there is no metabolic stimuli or altered blood flow such as hyperthyroidism ... Both lesions of the heart may result in echocardiographic changes which are indistinguishable from one another, and therefore echocardiogram is not always a useful tool in differentiating between primary and secondary cardiomyopathy. This paper evaluated plasma concentrations of two cardiac biomarkers; N terminal probrain natriuretic peptide (NT proBNP) and cardiac troponin I (cTNI). NT proBNP is secreted in response to myocardial stretch, and cTNI is released from the cytosol of damaged cardiomyocytes2

Brave New World Vs The Dispossessed Analysis Utopia offers us a glance at an alternative world, something that is necessary to protect against armed conflict, poverty, and hunger all of which are dilemmas in our modern day world. Although these are just a few of the complications that persist in our world, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley and The Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin give us a look into some utopian societies, fundamentally built on the same idea, to become a perfect utopia, but vastly different. The World States in Brave New World achieves the most utopian society compared to the civilizations in The Dispossessed, since a perfect utopian society includes a government that provides Freedom, Equality, and increases stability. • 7. Case Of Firosa Spolka V Fairbarn (1943) Contracts are defined as a legally or mutually binding agreement between two or more parties that is intended to be enforceable by law. Ideally, when a contract is entered into by both parties, there should be no complications involved throughout the duration of the contract but this is not always the case. A discharge of contract is when a situation arises that causes the termination of the contract. One of the manners in which a contract can be discharged is to be discharged by frustration., this can occur if there is a change in circumstances after the contract has been made which is no fault of either of the parties involved, which then renders the contract impossible to carry out or deprives the contract of its commercial purpose. The doctrine of frustration does not apply if the agreed contract contains provisions dealing with foreseen events that may occur. Zeus, although he was the leading god of the Olympians, was among several other gods that were of use to lead the Earth [Hemingway Greek Gods and Religious Practices | Essay | Helibrunn Timeline of Art History | The Metropolitan Museum of Art ]. The God in Christianity was one single deity who did not guide earth with other supernatural creators, as Zeus did. This represents the rarity of a perfect creator. This is displayed through the Erechtheion a statue created in the image of Athena and Poseidon, constructed between 421 B.C. and 406 B.C. This statue was built in exultation to these celebrated, supernatural rulers and to this day still stands as a landmark of history. • 10. Jazz Music Performance Review Essay On the evening of October 18th, 2015 I attended the live Jazz music performance of Nilson Matta s Brazilian Voyage . The performance was held at Dizzy s Club Coca Cola, located in the Jazz Lincoln Center, in New York City. Nilson Matta is a Brazilian bassist, composer, and producer. Matta is considered to be one of the greatest bass musicians in the world, and has earned great reputation for his unique sounds (Nilson). The staff members were very welcoming, and were all dressed in black attire. The venue had dim lighting, and each table had a lighted candle; which created a nice romantic and intimate atmosphere. Behind the stage, there is a spectacular scene that overlooks Central Park, and the city. At the beginning of the performance, Nilson Matta, and three other musicians walked up on stage, and introduced themselves. The musicians were, Mauricio Zottarelli (drummist), Craig Handy (saxophonist/flautist), Helen Sung (pianist), and of course Nilson Matta (bassist). Matta commenced the performance with a piece called Para Ti (For You), which he dedicated to Rio de Jainero. Matta began to play the double bass instrument. Although, it was huge in size, the timbre was dull. Following this, the rest of the musicians played along, creating beautiful harmonies, and Brazilian rhythms. The sounds of each instrument were clear in this piece, but the unique sound of the saxophone played by Handy, stood out the most. Helen Sung, also played the piano with great intensity and passion. Comparison of Java, JavaScript, Java Applets and Java Beans Introduction Starting back in the early 1990 s with the introduction of Java to the computer scene there has been many updates and advances in how languages interact with web based programs. In this paper we are going to highlight several areas of several different Java flavors. The flavors we are addressing are Java, JavaScript, Java Applets and JavaBeans. We will discuss their history, features, usage and syntax and finally follow up with a chart providing a comparison of the different Java architectures. There were early issues with JavaScript; security flaws, lack of development tools and often criticized for being too unlike Java, or too much like Perl. (Champeon, 2001) However, JavaScript took on a life all its own and in some circles was written off due to its simpleness, its security flaws and to some extent because it could only be tested within the browser environment. A Java Applet is a small program written in Java, which can be downloaded to any computer. The applet is usually embedded in an HTML page on a Web site and can be executed from within a browser. JavaSoft, the current name of the company which oversees the development of the Java language, was founded in January of 1996, and a few months later released the Java Development Kit (JDK) version 1.0. (Youmans, 1997) The concept of an applet came out of the creation on the Java language. It enabled users to produce programs named applets which could be transmitted and run over the Internet, a somewhat different end product from what was originally envisioned back at the beginning of the decade. • 13. All Things Not Being Equal All Things Not Being Equal An ongoing debate continues in the academic and scientific world of psychology in regards to the measurement of hypotheses, theories, and phenomenon. For the researcher, the argument is worrisome as well as tedious in nature. Most have the desire for the greatest statisticians to arrive at a consensus or standard, and allow the remainder to return to research business as usual. Very few if any researchers enjoy, comprehend, or desire to be knee deep in what a p value really means, other than the significance of the effect is less than .05. A statistically significant result allows for a positive hypothesis and a possible publication. However, an honest interpretation of statistical data would be more apt to produce a flawed literary publication that could be less than accurate. For this reason, psychology implores replication as the gold standard for research results. Reliability and validity are the foundational aspects of psychological science; without replication, there is little evidence to support the construct tested. Statistically speaking, results from research must be available and empirically evaluated to determine their merit (Thomas Hersen, 2011, p. 9). Thus, when new measures of statistical inference are used, the same evaluative process is applied. An example opined from Iverson, Wagenmakers, and Lee (2010) offer a paradoxical example applied to a new statistic that could not stand up to the scientific muster of replication. ... • 16. Installing An Ide Disk On A Linux System The purpose of this document is to detail the various steps needed to install, make ready, and mount an IDE disk on a Linux system. The process starts first with the cabling and physical installation of the disk. Next it is key to ensure the computer s BIOS is properly configured to allow access to the drive. Once the machine can see the physical drive the next step is to prepare the drive to accept data by partitioning the drive for the desired disk layout. Finally, the drive is mounted within the filesystem hierarchy so it may be accessed by the end user. Installing the Drive The first step in this process is the physical installation of the drive. While the process of installing an IDE drive is more involved than a SATA drive it is still easily accomplished if a few precautious are followed. The first step is to configure the jumper on the back of the IDE drive. Refer to the sticker on the drive itself or the manufacturer data sheet to identify the correct jumper position. Move the jumper on the back of the drive to the master position. There may be a CS or CSEL which stands for Cable Select. This should allow the computer to make the assignment based on cable position however this requires a special IDE cable (Chukov, n.d.). Simply setting the jumper itself is a simpler and delivers more consistent results. The second step is to identify the IDE headers on the computer motherboard with the help of the computer or motherboard manual. Without access to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But what if enzymes can be breakdown? Most enzymes need homeostasis environment to survive. Well we all know that as the amount of temperature increases the less the enzymes .Enzymes can be denatured using temperature, PH and salt concentration. As we know that protein structure are determined by DNA coding. We used temperature to see if increasing or decreasing temperature affected the amount of enzyme produced. So when the temperature is increased there will be more amount of enzymes denature due to high temperature and it would be opposite of temperature was dropped. And a denatured protein is biologically inactive hence it needs a homeostasis environment. Hydrogen peroxide is used for metabolic processes. The main purpose of this lab was to see that if increase in temperature resulted in denaturing of enzymes and comparing the time for h2o2 to bubble when using apples, onions and potatoes at room temperature. With the news filled with grim stories and horror many people are calling to the idea of loving everyone. Tensions are high concerning race relations, gender discrimination, and sexual orientation. Many in the general public are calling for humanity to embrace humanity. Many in the general public are asking why we can t just love one another ? Stephen T. Asma tackles this idea of love in his article published in the New York Times. Asma discusses two different ideas about universal love before offering his own take on the subject. Just as Asma states, universal love is a myth and closer personal relationships should be favored. The first argument given toward universal love is that humanity should care for and love for those close to them, but that humans also have the ability to care for and love everyone around them. The author mentions two different and important social theorists that believe in this theory. The first is Peter Singer. Singer explains his idea in his book The Expanding Circle . He believes that it is a person s ethical duty to help those in their closest circle, of family and friends. But he also believes that that circle grows and expands to encompass other individuals as well, because our communities and societies are just one small part of many with the same needs and wants as us.
