The reviewer enjoyed Fame (2009) and thought it captured the essence of pursuing fame like the original movie. While it followed some typical storylines around love and struggles hiding problems from parents, it also diverged from expectations in its storyline and ending. One aspect the reviewer praised was the realistic portrayal of challenges, including a character's attempted suicide. However, the reviewer felt the ending mirrored High School Musical too closely and could have been more unique than just a happy, cheesy finale with everyone singing together. Overall it received a positive review and was considered the reviewer's musical of the year.

1. My Review of Fame the movie 2009
I am very glad to be able to say that we now have a classic “fame the movie” and a modern day “Fame the movie” for the present generation. One question that lay on my mind and many other viewer’s minds whilst waiting for the movie to start was “Is it going to be better than the last”. On the 22nd October I visited Picture House, Stratford to experience and enjoy ‘Fame the movie 2009’.
The story concludes of different young teenagers with a destiny of one thing, fame.
I enjoyed the way Kevin Tancharoen had the beginning of the play chaotic with auditions for the so-called “performing arts school” had me on the edge of my cinema seat forcing bunches of popcorn in my mouth every few seconds. With the busy scenes switching back and forth and so much information to grab at, I couldn’t keep my eyes of the screen. I liked the way the movie let the audience know at least 1 little secret about the main characters whether it be a death in the family or problems at home it made a difference and made the audience feel like they had a personal relationship with each character. I am pleased the way Tancharoen changes the typical storyline of hardworking students that make it to the top with a happy ending to a complete different story line. I believe the writer was trying to show the youth of today that its not that easy to be famous and successful as it looks through media and that you should always be prepared for “knock backs”. “Fame 2009” not only gives us a range of dances such as contemporary and street but it also gives us a range of music such as classical and modern day hip-hop. Like every other movie these days, Fame had the typical love story filled with ups and downs but as usual had a happy ending.
One thing that annoyed me about the movie was that It was so typical, I was hoping that Fame would have young characters that had different problems, instead it was the usual young teenager who has to hide part of their lives from their parents because their parents would refuse if they found out, and the two typical characters that fall in love. One unique part of ‘Fame’ was the attempted suicide of the character Kevin who was played courageously by Paul McGill, the camera angles at this point were perfect, they got all the right points to keep the audiences eyes hanging out. One downfall of the movie would have to be the ending it reminded me of “High School Musical” all over again, the way the two lovers came on stage singing together and towards the very end all of them held hands at the end singing and smiling in a cheesy way, I don’t think it was a good way to end it all, they could of done something unique and it doesn’t always have to be a happy ending. On a good note I would say that there was a fair amount of singing, dancing and acting and I am happy to say that Fame 2009 is my musical of the year. Overall I give Fame 3 gold stars!
By Abigail Faponle 10U
