Certified Elementary School Teacher N-6
Dedicated elementary teacher, with an extensive literacy background, is eager to resume a full
time teaching position after substituting for three years in grades N-12 in regular and special
education. Proven track record of commended performance in all subject areas with cultural, racial,
and socio-economical diverse populations in both urban and rural settings.
Establish high expectations for students; continuously seek out ways to improve instruction,
through workshops, professional reading, and research, to equip children with the tools, resources,
and knowledge to exceed individual goals. Strong interpersonal skills have established strong
bonds with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators to instill a shared commitment to
quality education. Regarded as a key resource and problem solver, even as a substitute, I have
participated in staff development, coached colleagues and student teachers, assisted principals in
developing resources for Common Core Standards, and conducted demonstrations on literacy
instruction across the content areas.

Professional Experience___________________________________________________________
Tour Director for Curriculum Travel of America (March 2015-Present)
Reading Fellow of the Pennsylvania Writing and Literacy Project (PAWLP, 2013-Present)
Substitute Teacher N-12, General and Special Education (2012-Present)
General Education Teacher at Patchogue-Medford SD (N-6) (1997-2012)
General Education Teacher at Our Lady of Wisdom Regional School (N-6) (1994-1997)
Key Contributions________________________________________________________________
• As a tour director, I take 6-8th
grade students on multi-day trips to major cities and teach
them about the history of each, and engage them in activities such as scavenger hunts,
rubbings, and games of jeopardy based on what they have learned.
• Quickly became the preferred sub for the classes I worked in. As a long-term sub in an inner
city school I planned and facilitated six intervention groups and one enrichment group in
literacy and math, and planned, organized and facilitated staff development associated with
the Common Core Standards. The principal,” Picked my brain,” for recommendations for the
purchase of professional books to purchase for the staff to increase their knowledge in
literacy and on correlating the standards in their teaching, pushed into diverse classes to
assist learning in all content areas, and mentored teachers in the goals of literacy in
conjunctions with the Common Core Standards.
• Taught General Education students as well as those with learning challenges in accordance
with their IEPS.
• Incorporated guided comprehension strategy instruction to model questioning, clarification,
and problem solving techniques across all content areas.
• Administered formal and informal assessments to drive instruction, create individual goals,
and determine the reading levels of my students.
• Developed innovative approaches that were repeatedly held up to the highest standards by
the administration in meeting the districts goals in areas including literacy, integrating
technology across the content areas, experiential learning, and diversity.
• Prepared students for the state assessments and participated in grading them.
• Always received highly experienced on my Annual Performance Review.
• Colleagues always came to me as a mentor when they needed a hand with formulating
effective lessons.
• Avidly read professional books and attended workshops in all areas in order to keep my
teaching up to date and have a variety of techniques in order to reach every child in my
class.
• Actively served on a variety of school committees and task forces focused on curriculum
development, textbook review, fundraising, after school parent-child book cub meetings,
professional book clubs, etc.
• Established positive relationships with students, parents, fellow teachers, administrators, and
staff.

Additional Information
Hired as a full time teacher as soon as I left college and continued for 20 years in NY until my
husband decided he wanted to start a new career and we moved to PA. I love teaching and I am
not looking for a salary commensurate with my teaching experience or what I earned in NY.
Substituting just doesn’t compare to having your own classroom where you can truly engage with
your students and collegues.
