Social media is the mean of social interaction through different techniques and ways. It is the best way of communication between people because everyone has the right and freedom to speak and share anything. Social media includes face book, twitter, my space etc. In simple words it can be said as the network of social sites where people can share their views or anything they want to. Social media includes social networking websites, blogs, video and photo sharing sites like you tube and flicker, user reviews for instance Amazon.com and many more such websites. It creates an environment in which everyone can contribute in the communication it is the best way of exchanging information among people. It creates a virtual framework which enables the people to setup a forum or platform to share information of common interest. . It is available for the whole public and not restricted to few people. It is accessible by the whole public and targets the interest of whole world i.e. every field is touched. It’s a decentralized platform and multi topics are discussed in it. There is even no hierarchy in it. It’s not like the industrial media in which once information has been broad casted cannot be changed. In social media any information can be changed and altered at any time and by anyone with even little knowledge. As anyone can edit this information so it’s not that much authenticated and reliable information as you can get from some industrial media.

Technology and social media have allowed us to communicate and keep in touch with many we would not see due to distance or careers. However, it can also cause distractions. Quite frequently, I find myself opening the Facebook or Instagram app on my phone out of boredom. It has become a habit. Allowing social media in the classroom is opening a door for distractions and unnecessary problems.
Websites that students visit could be a distraction to other students. According to Sam Goundar, many students complained to professors about the web usage other students had during lectures (Goundar 2014). It has become a common problem in classrooms that students are more interested in social media than the lecture being taught. Also, research shows that if the laptop being used in class is not for actual class work, the students become distracted and disengaged from class activities (Goundar 2014). According to one study, two studied groups sat through the same lecture. One group was allowed to use their computers, the other group was not. After the lecture, the students completed a test. The results showed that those allowed to use their computers scored lower than those that did not (Goundar 2014). Those that used their computers also searched other websites and checked their social media pages.
Technology is not going anywhere. Students are constantly surrounded by it. It is important to teach them how to use it and show them how resourceful it can be, but technology needs to be controlled. Technology should only be used in the classroom for related activities with close monitoring.

While podcasts were difficult for her to follow as a visual learner, she found that multimedia accommodated her preferences by providing visuals like images and graphs. Going forward, Kathy plans to continue using multimedia to support her lifelong learning goals, such as researching teaching as a future career, but will limit non-academic iPad use.
