Kaycee Smith shares her story of searching for her next career step after turning 30 and leaving a job she loved to be with family. She realized she wanted to work with a creative team in media. While she previously had a fulfilling job in this field without a degree, it was now challenging to find similar work. She decided to enroll in the Media Communications program at Full Sail University to gain the skills and education needed to pursue her passion for media.

Julio Lebron was unsure of his career path before starting the MCBS program. After hearing a presentation about the program, he realized it could provide opportunities that fit his interests in the media and music industries. Although he initially couldn't afford it, he found scholarship assistance through his job. The courses taught him about various creative careers in media. He discovered that brand and reputation management incorporated his strengths and experiences. He now aims to build his professional brand as a top brand representative and image consultant.

They plan to work hard, learn everything they can, and eventually graduate to pursue a career in film, marketing or music, which have long been dreams of theirs.

Skye Woods researched degree programs that would allow her to enjoy school while making a good living. She had previously dropped out of college in 2006 and thought she was done with school. However, she realized she needed to expand her knowledge to guarantee a prosperous future for her family as an artist and entertainer. The MCBS program incorporated her passion for media and provided a plan A, B, C and D for her life. Since enrolling, she has looked only forward with the goal of becoming a Renaissance Woman.

Morgan Wright was previously a touring drummer in a band but wanted more stability in life. After researching options, Morgan enrolled in Full Sail University's online Media Communications Bachelor of Science program to pursue an interest in media. Morgan has been enrolled for 5 months, learning a lot and gaining knowledge and experience working in the field. Morgan is excited to see how the program prepares for future career opportunities upon graduation.

Felisha Hodges was unhappy with how her life was going and felt unfulfilled. She realized she had settled for less than she wanted to accomplish and wanted to make a difference. To achieve her dreams and goals, she decided she needed a college degree. She researched programs and schools carefully. She set specific goals for graduating and her dream job afterward. As a single mother, she made choices that would positively impact her son's life as well.

Matt Johnson was an IT professional for over ten years who became complacent and unemployed. He started a graphic design firm with his wife but many clients needed additional services like web development and video editing. Realizing he needed more knowledge and skills, Matt tried self-teaching but found structured learning better. He decided to continue his education by attending Full Sail University's online MCBS program to expand his skills and pursue his passion for media.

Lauren Benzo was indecisive about returning to school with over 10 years of experience in the music industry. She started as wanting to be a rapper but became an assistant for a group called The LOX in 2002. After learning about the music industry, she started her own promotional company called D.Y.M.E.ndz Inc. This led her to doing interviews for websites and publications. After her fifth article, she began receiving requests to cover more events. This traveling and exposure made her pursue journalism professionally. Week 2 Exploration: Storyboard

As a communications major wanting to work in media, the author felt Lynchburg College lacked relevant courses and was too expensive. Though initially struggling to see the curriculum's relevance, the author came to love Full Sail's engaged professors, supportive career services, and connections to media industry leaders. The author now feels Full Sail is opening doors to a bright future in their desired field.
Letter To the Judges
Allison Albee created a commercial and two print advertisements for her senior project promoting adoptions through The Humane Society of America. Through her research into advertising techniques, she aimed to give her audience a new perspective on dogs without being deceptive. While she enjoyed the creative aspects of designing the campaign, the project helped her realize she prefers to pursue a career in film and photography business where she can be her own boss. Although the senior project was stressful, it helped Allison discover she wants to major in mass media arts to make her dream a reality.

My MCBS Story
- 1. My MCBS Story By Kaycee Smith NMT Class March 2014
- 2. Before I started the MCBS Program I was trying to figure out my next step in life.
- 3. I had always thought I would know exactly what I was supposed to be doing and be right in the middle of that career by the time I was 30.
- 4. But then I turned 30…
- 5. …and after trying several different routes I wasn’t there yet!
- 6. I had just quit a job I loved and moved to a new state…
- 7. …to be with my family during a difficult time.
- 8. Because of that I had some soul searching to do as far as what my next career move would be. Until finally I narrowed it down to the idea of working with a creative team in the media world. This was actually the sort of job I had just left.
- 9. Seven years ago I kind of fell into a position, in which I worked as a project manager and video producer for a creative team. I realized that in the past 10 years this particular job was the one I enjoyed most from all the others. It was where I felt most fulfilled.
- 10. However, with no formal education getting back into a position like this somewhere else proved challenging to say the least, if not impossible. I needed a degree.
- 11. But I didn’t want to go just anywhere for this.
- 12. I wanted the best education I could get.
- 13. I wanted to go to a school that had a strong reputation and would give me an edge in the industry.
- 14. That’s when Full Sail and the media communications program came on the scene!
- 15. I knew I wouldn’t find a better place to start my journey toward getting back into a career I love. And ever since I decided to pursue my passion for media at Full Sail, I’ve had a strong sense that I’m walking in the right direction…
- 16. …that’s a good feeling!
