Evaluation of preliminary task
By Niyi Adeaga
What we did
• In two group we filmed a short clip including all the three shot that
we previously learned. we were all told the plot of the film and it
was up to us to make it our own. The plot of the film was someone
walking in, someone sitting down and having a conversation with
another person and then the person leaving. The three shot we
needed to include were shot reverse shot, match on action, and 180
degree rule. In the following slides it will explain how and when we
used each shot.
SHOT REVERSE SHOT
The first shot is of Amber (The jealous chum)
arguing with Lucy (the Girlfriend). Here the
camera is on the right side of her shoulder
but behind her head
The second shot happens immediately
after the first but has been reversed so
that the camera is on the left side of
amber and facing Lucy. By doing this we
are sticking to the 180 degree rule and
have produced shot reverse shot.
SHOT REVERSE SHOT
• Lets look at this shot again…..
• What effect does it create?
The effect it gives is a more
dynamic conversation between
the two characters.
Also we are able to feel more
involved in the conversation as
we are seeing everything form
there perspective
180 DEGREE RULE
We incorporated the 180 degree rule into our film as shown by the
picture above. To keep to the 180 degree rule we took a shot over
Lucy’s right shoulder and a shot over Ambers left.
180 DEGREE RULE
• Lets look at this shot again……
By doing this it does not cause the viewer
any confusion and keeps the consistency
of the film.
MATCH ON ACTION
Here in the first shot we
have a shot of Lucy from
behind walking in a room
at the start of the short film
The second shot is the same
action, Lucy walking into the
room but the camera has
been flipped so we can see
her from the front
MATCH ON ACTION
• Lets look at this shot again…..
• What effect des it create?
This shot allows the viewer to keep the fluidity of
the film and NO confusion occurs
Making the mise-en-scene, sound, narrative structure
interesting/engaging
MISE-EN-SCENE
The first stage of this process was to identify our mise-en-scene and how
exactly we would make it interesting. This was relatively easy as we were
given the location of the media class. This location was perfect for us as a
group and a for what we wanted to film, it had a computer where amber
could sit and wait to be approached by Lucy and also had the perfect walk
way for Lucy to walk in.
HOW WE MADE IT INTERESTING
We made our film interesting by adding violence, this was shown when Lucy
slapped Amber’s face. This made it increasingly more interesting because it
would make you want to know what happens next after the slap.
Conclusion
As a group I feel we meet the demands of the
task really well. We needed to add three shot
types which we found extremely easy, because
we all had a really good knowledge and
understanding of what the shots entailed
