This document discusses the filming of a preliminary exercise and ways to improve various shots. It analyzes different camera shots taken of a building, a child's bedroom, and a spy character. The shots are evaluated and suggestions are provided for improving angles, reveals, and continuity between shots. The use of camera positioning and types of shots to tell a story and keep characters anonymous is also assessed.

1. Preliminary task to final
piece

4. We have started off with an
establishing shot of the
building we will be using for
our preliminary exercise.
We have focused on
the front of the
building .We used a
360 panning shot to
establish the building
and its surroundings.
If we were to take this
shot again , we would possibly take it
from a further distance and
incorporate different angles ,maybe
add in a close up of the writing on the
building to further emphasise the area.
This shot establishes the child's
bedroom. We have again used a
panning shot , this time we made sure
the camera was completely still , taken
from the right angle and that we did
not zoom into something particular
this time .

5. We have straight away gone
into a shot of the spy on her
journey. If this shot was done
next time, we would make sure
more shots from different
angles were taken to create
more of a continuous edit.
This shot does not
show the actresses
face as she is a spy
her identity has to
be kept unknown
We did not want to reveal the
actresses identity too early
into the sequence . We have
taken this shot from a tilted
angle as Scarlet runs into the
woods as we felt it was more
effective than taking the shot
from a straight angle as the
audience would before to
connect with the character
more.

6. We have taken a mid shot as the
actress is about to walk through
the door. This was to enable the
audience to identify with the
actress a bit more.

7. A shot of the actress was taken as she walks through the
door.However,this shot did not flow continuously .If we were
to take this type of shot again , we would have to take several
shots of the actress walking through the door to show the
exact movement as the door is being opened and closes to
create a continuous edit.

8. Still keeping the identity of the
actress a secret , a long shot has
been taken as the journey is
continued.

9. A mid shot is used to
engage the audience as the
actress is entering a new
setting.

10. A shot has been
taken as she walks
into the room , to
keep the
continuous flow.

11. An over the
shoulder shot
has been used
.This gives the
view from the
main actresses
point of view.
Both actresses are
turned around,
identity is still kept a
secret.
The identity is still
kept secret for the
first half of the
sequence.
Used an over the
shoulder shot once
again however this
time made sure the
camera was kept
straight .

12. The identity of spy 2
has been revealed.
Having her
hand on the
table
emphasises
the power
she has over
the other
spy.

13. An over the shoulder shot has been
taken .However , spy 2 is the person
supposing to have the power over spy
one. The mistake made was this camera
position chosen as it seems spy 1 is the
dominating spy as she is shown to be
bigger.

the prop is
given to
emphasise
this is the
main prop
We had used several
close ups in our final
sequence as we
wanted to keep the
audience engaged and
keep the characters
identity unknown for
most of the sequence.

15. The folder
is then slid
to spy 2 ,
creating a
continuous
flow .

shoulder shot is
done again.We
made sure we had
used the 180
degree rule when
filming the
converse shots .We
had done this
correctly .

17. Summary
• Overall , I feel the preliminary task was very useful. I believe
our group has learnt from our mistakes and have greatly
improved our skills whilst filming using a variety of camera
angles and positions . We had used very similar camera
shots from our preliminary task to our final sequence which
I felt had really improved the way we took each shot as we
were able to link each camera position with the meaning
we wanted to portray through each shot. We had a chance
to familiarise with the camera and its functions whilst
filming the preliminary exercise which helped us when
filming our final piece as we knew which equipment to use
when and how to use the camera to its full potential .
