Cloud Function For Firebase
Google Cloud Functions is Google's serverless compute solution for creating event-driven applications. It is a joint product between the Google Cloud Platform team and the Firebase team.
The slide deck was used during the Azure user group meet up on 16th August 2018. It is part of Hands on Lab for learning Azure Kubernetes Service. The talk demonstrated usage of Minikube to test Kubernetes manifest files using a single node cluster. The features covered as part of hands on demo included Namespaces, Pods, Deployment, Service, StatefulSets.
KUBEBOOT - SPRING BOOT DEPLOYMENT ON KUBERNETES HAS NEVER BEEN SO EASYRed Hat Developers
Have you ever thought how to deploy Cloud Native Java Applications (Spring Boot) on Kubernetes? Kubernetes has now become a de-facto standard for deploying Cloud Native Applications, but still there is myth that they are not ready for Java workloads. The aim of this session is to break that myth to show Kubernetes is well suited for Cloud Native Java applications. The session starts with a brief history of Microservices; the framework, the libraries, the platform and the tools that have been part of every cloud native applications and how they become deprecated with Cloud Native Java applications deployed to Kubernetes. The session explores the cloud native characteristics such as Discovery, Blue/Green Deployments, Elasticity, Canary Deployments, Resiliency, Pipeline(CI/CD), Authentication etc., becomes implicit characteristics to your Spring Boot Java applications that are deployed on Kubernetes/OpenShift. In this session, we will see how to build, debug, deploy and discover Spring Boot applications on Kubernetes, covering in depth details of the tools, libraries and platform that could be used to make your spring boot deployment smooth and easy.

GIDS 2019: Developing Apps with Containers, Functions and Cloud ServicesPatrick Chanezon
Cloud native applications are increasingly composed of containers, serverless functions responding to events and managed cloud services. What is the best workflow and set of tools to provide a rapid, iterative development experience and to package applications using these three components?
This hand-on talk will compare and contrast several sets of tools and their associated workflows:
Using Docker Desktop, with its local Docker engine and Kubernetes cluster, with open source tools such as the Virtual Kubelet, or the Gloo hybrid app gateway, to build the most productive development inner-loop for these type of applications
OpenFaaS, Fn, or Nuclio open source serverless framework to run functions in containers locally
Telepresence to run a container locally, connected to a remote cluster
Helm and Draft
Knative
The talk will also cover how you can use the Cloud Native Application Bundle (CNAB) format and tools to package your applications and share them using a container registry.

How To Build and Run Node Apps with Docker and ComposeDocker, Inc.
Kathleen Juell, Digital Ocean -
Containers are an essential part of today's microservice ecosystem, as they allow developers and operators to maintain standards of reliability and reproducibility in fast-paced deployment scenarios. And while there are best practices that extend across stacks in containerized environments, there are also things that make each stack distinct, starting with the application image itself.
This talk will dive into some of these particularities, both at the image and service level, while also covering general best practices for building and running Node applications with database backends using Docker and Compose.
Cloud computing - an insight into "how does it really work ?" Tikal Knowledge
Using "Grails" and utilizing SpringSource, we shall offer a hands-on demo introducing a typical "Grails" development environment and a classical cloud computing application deployed and managed on top of Amazon CC services.
Running Docker in Production - The Good, the Bad and The UglyKontena, Inc.
When beginning to run Docker in production choosing the right path is critical. This presentation gives you some tips and suggestions on how to make this process easier.
A Kubernetes cluster contains a set of worker
machines known as nodes that run
containerized applications
ü Every cluster has at least one worker node.
Hence, if a node fails, your application will still
be accessible from the other nodes as in a
cluster, multiple nodes are grouped
Feeling overwhelmed while getting started with containers? Have you been tasked to figure out how to train everyone back at your organization? There's just so much to learn and teach! In this talk, we'll start with a tiny bit of history to motivate the "why" and quickly move into the "what" by explaining what container and images actually are (they're not just magical black boxes!). We'll talk about how volumes help with data persistence and include an overview of Docker Compose and even orchestration. There will be plenty of live demos and fun!
Getting Started with jClouds: Multi Cloud FrameworkIndicThreads
Session Presented @IndicThreads Cloud Computing Conference, Pune, India ( http://u10.indicthreads.com )
------------
One of the big hurdles for an enterprise to move to the cloud is the fear of getting locked into a specific cloud implementation. This is one of the big reasons apart from security of data that keeps most of the enterprises out of the cloud space. Currently each vendor provides their unique set of API to interact with their Cloud services. This mandates a need to recode and refactor when moving from one cloud provider to the other.
jClouds is a multi cloud framework which allows connection to multiple clouds such as Amazon, VMWare, Azure, and Rackspace. jClouds provides portable abstractions for cloud specific features, thus allowing the application to move from one cloud vendor to the other with relative ease. jClouds also had a simulators to operate in restricted environments like Google App Engine and Android. Unit testing and mocking is made easy through stub connections which simulate the cloud.
Takeaways from the session
* Understand the need for a multi cloud framework
* showcase of abstractions for different cloud environments.
* Introduction to capabilities of jClouds
* Hands on application development using jClouds on GAE

CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!
Work done in cooperation with James Malloy and David Moelling from Tetra Engineering.
