This document outlines Emma Bowers' ideas and planning for her Music Video Assignment 2. It includes potential song choices, inspiration from other music videos, her final idea to create a fun and upbeat music video for "Song 2" by Blur using a montage style and bold colors. Her creative concept involves a girl lip syncing in various locations with different makeup looks. She provides storyboards and plans her production needs like locations, equipment, cast, and contingencies to address potential issues that may arise.
3. MYSTERY GIRL – ALEXANDRA SAVIOR
• Consistent red colour theme –
lights/makeup
• Different types of close up shots

s
4. TELEVISION ROMANCE – PALE
WAVES
The video looks British with the
dull colours and the buildings. I
could take inspiration from this
since it’s definitely very doable.
I might use this as inspiration
for B roll mainly.

5. THERE’S A HONEY – PALE WAVES

• Close up shots of lip
syncing

bright use of colour

7. POTENTIAL SONGS
• Feel Good Inc. – Gorillaz
• Lost – Frank Ocean
• There’s A Honey – Pale Waves
• Psycho Killer – Talking Heads
• Mystery Girl – Alexandra Savior
• Only Angel – Harry Styles
• Song 2 - Blur
• Arabella – Arctic Monkeys
8. MUSIC VIDEO CONVENTIONS
YOU PLAN TO USE
This could be lip sync, beat editing, montage, narrative,
performance, dance, etc, etc.
• Montage
• Use of bold and bright colours
• Paced to match the song – preferably more fast paced
• Beat editing
• B roll inspired by the Television Romance video
• An overall colour scheme
9. MIND MAP OF IDEAS
[SUMMARY OF IDEAS]
Montage of
clips
Bold and bright
colours
Upbeat
Colour themes
Things to match the rock genre e.g.
makeup/outfits
VHS looking overlay on some
clips
Film on a field
10. SUMMARY
Opportunities of your ideas
• Experient with different ideas, props and
locations
• Take some inspiration from music videos I’ve
watched
• The song has little thought/meaning in terms
of lyrics so there’s a lot of creative freedom to
make a fun video
• The song is only 2:01 minutes long so getting
a good amount of footage will be very doable
• Quite simplistic ideas – nothing too difficult
11. SUMMARY
Restrictions to your ideas
• Getting people for the video
• The weather
• Costs – transport, food etc.
• Getting availability of people and kit
12. FINAL IDEA – TRACK
SUMMARY
• Song 2 – Blur
• 2:01 minutes duration
• Rock genre
• Because the song is a parody of typical grunge tracks in
America in the 90s, the lyrics have little meaning
which gives less pressure on trying to make the music
video fit a strict meaning and is essentially just more of a
fun and upbeat song allowing more freedom for the
music video.
13. FINAL IDEA – YOUR IDEA
Your creative concept/video synopsis [describe your
interpretation, use of imagery or narrative, genre
conventions, etc]
• A girl in a field with a fake microphone lip syncing for
fun as if she was performing
• Doing her makeup (dark/heavy to fit rock genre) /
messy hair in the mirror and lip syncing
• Coloured / flashing lights
• B roll of the sky/fields/British looking places
• Dull/dark lighting on some B roll
• Montage – quick and on beat editing
15. LOCATIONS
• Fields / The Railway Lines – easy place to get
to, only downfall could potentially be the
weather
• Bathroom / place with big mirror – easy to
get, just cost of transport
•Streets for B roll of big buildings - could do
locally in Harrogate or maybe go to Leeds for
more opportunities which would just add cost
for transport
16. EQUIPMENT
What do you need? E.g. equipment, resources? Mostly
from college, but who do you need to speak to get this
kit? What is available? When?
Look at equipment hire places, etc
• Camera kit – Jamie
• Lighting equipment – Jamie
17. PERSONNEL
CAST :
Claudia – the main girl in the video
costs – transport, costume, food
CREW :
Emma – camera, planning, editing
18. PROPS/COSTUME/ETC
• Dress
• Boots
• Microphone / something that could be used as a fake
microphone
• Dramatic / dark / glitter / bold makeup
23. 1 - INTRO
From the beginning to 14 seconds in
•A fast-paced montage of different locations
•Girl doing her makeup in the mirror
•I want this intro to just look really British
•On beat editing
24. 2 - FIRST SCENE
• Lip-syncing the “woo-
hoo”s
• In-between the woo-
hoos, have more clips
to keep the video at a
quick pace
• For the in-between
shots the girl dancing
on a field for example,
but has different
makeup/outfits on the
different locations
(From 15 seconds to 19 seconds)
25. 3 – SECOND SCENE
• Start shots that have the flashing lights as the
song starts
• A montage
•Dancing shots
•On beat editing
• A lot of shots to fit the fast paced song but not
so many it comes across messy/too much
(From around 20 seconds in to 29
seconds)
26. 4 – FIRST VERSE
• Film multiple long shots of lip syncing the song in different settings/makeup
looks/ angles
• Add clips within the lip syncing clips
• Want it to look and feel very British for this part
• Use a vhs/old looking overlay on some of the lip syncing clips
• Short shots of her walking/doing normal things
• Could maybe use a fish eye lense
• Quite dull for colour
(From 30 seconds to 45 seconds)
• Calmer
27. 5 – CHORUS
(From 45 seconds to
1:10)
• Fun, flashing lights, neon colours,
bold and bright
• Lip syncing to the last line “Pleased
to meet you”
• Bold/glittery makeup
28. 6 – VERSE 2
• In the line “when I was young” hold
up a smiley baby photo/younger
photo and look straight at the
camera with no emotion holding it
up
• Video goes back to a more ‘British’
feel
• More b roll clips / montage
• Somewhat of a colour theme to
keep it the same and to contrast the
boldness in the chorus
(From 1:10 to 1:25)
29. 7 – CHORUS 2
(From 1:26 to 1:45)
• Very similar themes to the first chorus
• As many different clips and shots as
possible so it’s not an exact copy but overall
very similar theme/ideas as the first chorus
30. 8 – THE ENDING
• On beat editing
• Fast paced
• B roll footage
• Lots of use of colour
• Use footage similar to
what’s in the verses
32. PRODUCTION GROUP INFO
Include names, contact info, and defined roles at
difference stages of production, using a table is
suggested
Amelia Asquith – WhatsApp
• The actor in the music video
Jamie Langford – iMessage
• Borrowing equipment from him
34. CONTINGENCY
PLANNING
Things go wrong
Your contingency plan is there to give you a
backup or to minimise the effect on
production
You should consider the following areas:
Technical, Location, Personnel and
Organisational areas [about 5 potential issues
for each]
Use the form in pre-production folder on
