The document discusses how the filmmaker attracted and addressed their audience in their movie. They used dark clothing for the protagonist and antagonists to represent good and evil. Light colors were used for the damsel to elicit empathy. Shots during different times of year were used to symbolize youth and grief. The dramatic ending leaves questions to engage viewers.

1. How did you attract/ address your audience?
I believed I used of particular thriller and select horror mise-en-scene tropes. For example I dressed my
protagonist in black as a connotation to her dark magic after all like the title of my movie suggests, she is
a dark angel. My antagonists were also in dark clothing to represent their evil nature. The damsel-in-
distress in this case, ‘Gabriel’ is wearing light colours, pale blues etc. I used this to provide a sense of
purity an make the audience empathise with him as he was slain for no particular reason.
In addition I made sure to film the alternating shots of Yolanda and the chase between Gabriel and his
killers during different parts of the year. I wanted to do this because it gave a sense that during Gabriel’s
chase all of the nature and surrounding area is verdant and coming to life to symbolise his youth.
However when Yolanda’s shots are shown, the area is more dark and devoid of life. This is to mirror her
grief and symbolise that her young grandsons innocence and purity had been taken from the Earth.
I believe that my film opening provided the audience with a sufficient amount of action and enigma codes
provided my audience with enough questions to want to watch more. For example, the dramatic ending
to the scene will leave the audience questioning the fate of Gabriel and how will Yolanda get revenge for
the murder of her grandson.
2. What have you learnt about technologies from the
process of constructing this product?
Since beginning this course I have learnt how to effectively use video editing
technologies such as Final Cut Pro and iMovie. However during this period I
found that Final Cut Pro in particular seemed to be quite temperamental. This is
why I successfully produced my film opening on iMovie. I used my own macbook
to produce this and found relative ease navigating through the software and
operation systems installed.
I did however find some trouble when uploading my video to youtube as there
was a few copyright issues because of the song that I used across the clip.
However this issue was resolved when I used an alternate track. Originally I
planned to use the song ‘I Miss You’ by Adele however a company had claimed
copyright and I couldn't use it. I quickly found an alternative ‘Ghost/ Haunted’ by
Beyoncé.
3. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you
have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
When I produced my preliminary task I felt that my knowledge and
understanding in producing and editing a film was extremely limited. The
only understanding I had of the topic was from producing movie maker
presentations in primary and secondary school. However over the course
of the past year I have learnt how to use such software as iMovie and Final
Cut Pro.
Comparing my preliminary to my finished piece, I can see that the prelim
was basic and offered little information in the form of action and enigma
codes. Whereas I believe that my final piece provided enough action and
enigma codes to leave the audience questioning what would happen in the
next scene.
