This document provides an evaluation of draft edits made to a music video. Scenes were changed from full color to black and white to match the depressing lyrics and narrative of a girl cheating. Money falling was added to represent wealth and question its source, generating intrigue. Tunnel scenes now show the artist dancing in smoke with associates to convey crime, while editing hue and saturation to portray drug effects. Car scenes introduce a female character arguing with the protagonist to advance the narrative of a relationship in dispute, using conventional R&B video tropes.

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. 2. Introductory Scenes
This is the next draft we completed, the
introductory scenes haven't changed
since we first edited them, however a
change was made to the first lip syncing
scenes, instead of having them in full
colour, we decided to apply a black and
white filter to conform more to similar
products of the R&B genre. It also helps
with portraying the slightly depressing
nature of the lyrics and narrative, which
is a girl cheating on the protagonist.
3. Money Scene
The next scene we then added was a scene of money falling,
this represents the wealth and money aspect portrayed in a
lot of R&B and Hip Hop videos, it makes the audience
question how the money was made, whether it was from the
artists music or his suspected involvement in criminal
activities. This is due to the juxtaposition often made
between money and crime in these genres, this effect
generates a talking point and more hype around the artist
and his music that could potentially lead to more views. We
then applied and 3D / glitch effect to conform to similar
products.
4. Tunnel Scenes
Following the money scene the video is then taken back
to the tunnel, this time at a wider angle and filming
down the tunnel rather than against the wall. We chose
this angle because it improved visibility for the smoke
bombs to be set off, these props are very conventional of
both the Hip Hop and R&B genre. The scene shows the
artist dancing amongst the smoke with some
“associates” in the background, they are dressed so that
their faces cant be recognized. This helps convey the
sense of crime embedded within the video, juxtaposed
with the mise en scene which is also of an urban
criminal nature. The editing of the hue and saturation is
altered multiple times throughout as this is a technique
we have found in several similar products to help
portray the use of drugs and its effects.
5. Car Scenes
For the narrative, we introduce a female
character, which plays the role of the girl
cheating on the protagonist. The close up two
shot shows the characters having a dispute in
a sports car, the lyrics illustrate the argument
that takes place and that’s why the artist is lip
syncing whilst arguing. The female character
shows disagreement by her facial expression
and rolling her eyes. The use of female
characters in R&B videos is very
conventional as the genre is seen to be based
mainly around sex and sexual relationships.
