 The lobby’s faceted interior indicates access to the
major program elements, which begin adjacent to the
lobby and move throughout the building
Cafe
the 44-seat café can be repurposed by
removing the tables and chairs. With
the addition of the lobby and/or the

Screening room
 The 68-seat screening room is a
striking contrast to the main theater.
The screening room exposes
loudspeakers and a grey, perforated
acoustical wall surface, bringing users
inside of the moving image.
 The hot pink entrance and accent in
the theater exhibits the same playful
atmosphere as the main theater
while providing an intimate space for
Main theatre
 Entrance to main theater just next to reception.
 The 267-seat theater accommodates classic as well as high-
definition 3d projections, as well as provides a stage for
lectures and other live events
 In the main theater the illusion of a floating surface is
created through distinct, yet soft open joints between
1,136 triangular fabric panels.

Educational Spaces
 Upon reaching the first level, the grand stair widens into a
1,700 square-foot video screening amphitheater.
 The integration of ramp and stair allows for the
amphitheater to be an interactive educational stage.
 To accommodate more students the Digital Learning Suite
houses mobile computer workstations. The space is divided
with custom designed curtains to allow for flexible space use.
 This flexible space can accommodate up to 240 guests for a
seated dinner. The room can be configured into two separate
classrooms, each with its own projection facility.
Education Centre
 While moving upstairs there we find some educational spaces and exhibition
galleries
 The william fox amphitheater can
accommodate 54 guests and features an
LCD monitor capable of displaying custom
content. When used in conjunction with the
digital learning suite, the space—which has
a separate entrance—can also be used for
the display of video materials.
 The seminar room offers exceptional
executive quarters for meetings of up to
25. There is a fixed conference table
and video capability.

students. The Store also offers a selection
of DVDs, specially designed Museum
souvenirs, and gifts for children and adults.
 The exterior features a second ‘cut
and folded’ surface, wrapping the
addition in an innovatively designed
pattern of triangular metal panels.
 The detailing for the Museum of the
Moving Image is as minimal as
possible, yet clear in its definition of

SPEAKERS PLACEMENTS
FRONT SPEAKERS
IF THERE ARE 5 FRONT SPEAKERS, LEFT EXTRA SHOULD BE PLACED MIDWAY BETWEEN CENTRE
AND LEFT SPEAKER, AND CORRESPONDINGLY WITH RIGHT EXTRA AND RIGHT SPEAKERS, AT
THE SAME HEIGHT AS THE OTHER FRONT SPEAKERS.
THE CABINET SHOULD BE PLACED CLOSE TO THE PICTURE’S VERTICAL CENTRE LINE, BUT NOT
ON THE AUDITORIUM CENTRE LINE, TO AVOID ACOUSTICAL PROBLEMS.
USUALLY THE SUBWOOFERS ARE PLACED SLIGHTLY OFF-CENTRE, BELOW THE CENTRE
SPEAKER. SUBWOOFERS MAY ALSO BE PLACED BELOW THE SCREEN FRAME.
SUBWOOFERS
•THE DISTANCE FROM THE LEFT OR RIGHT CORNER TO THE FIRST SPEAKER SHOULD BE IN THE
RANGE OF 0.9-1.2m.
•THE SPEAKERS SHOULD BE EVENLY DISTRIBUTED ON THE WALL WITH A DISTANCE BETWEEN
EACH OF THEM (C-C) IN THE RANGE OF 1.0–2.5m (MAXIMUM 3m). SMALLER SPACING WILL
PROVIDE BETTER DISTRIBUTION OF THE SOUND, ESPECIALLY IF THE LAST ROW IS CLOSE TO
THE REAR WALL.
•ALL REAR SURROUND SPEAKERS MUST BE MOUNTED AT THE SAME HEIGHT AND OFFER A
GOOD COVERAGE OF THE AUDITORIUM. IF THE CEILING HEIGHT ALLOWS FOR IT, THE
SPEAKERS SHOULD BE MOUNTED AT A HEIGHT OF 2.5-3M ABOVE THE FLOOR. IF NOT, THEY
SHOULD BE MOUNTED RIGHT BELOW THE CEILING.
REAR SURROUND SPEAKERS
•SPEAKERS SHOULD BE PLACED ON THE SIDE WALLS
•THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE SPEAKERS SHOULD BE BETWEEN 1.0 AND 2.5 (MAX. 3) METERS
•WHEN PLACING THE SIDE SURROUND SPEAKERS, USE A SIMILAR SPACING AS THE ONE USED
FOR THE REAR SPEAKERS.
•IF THE SPACING COMES OUT DIFFERENT THAN THE REAR WALL, THE SPACING SHOULD BE
SLIGHTLY SMALLER FOR THE REAR SPEAKERS.
SIDE SURROUND SPEAKERS
MOUNTING SURROUND SPEAKERS
USUALLY THEY ARE MOUNTED ON BRACKETS WHERE THEY CAN BE TILTED IN THE DESIRED
DIRECTION.
TO MOUNT THE SURROUND SPEAKERS ON THE WALL, MAKE SURE THAT THE WALL CAN
SAFELY CARRY THE WEIGHT OF THE BRACKET WITH THE SPEAKER. IT IS OFTEN NECESSARY TO
STRENGTHEN THE WALLS WITH STUDDING (FOR EXAMPLE PLYWOOD).
SMALL SPEAKERS WEIGH UP TO 10kg, WHILE LARGE ONES CAN WEIGH AS MUCH AS 30 kg OR
MORE. CONFIRM THE WEIGHT AND MOUNTING SYSTEM WITH THE SOUND INSTALLER OR
TAKE ACCOUNT FOR MORE HEAVY SPEAKERS.
ANGLED SIDE WALLS
IN MANY AUDITORIUMS, THE SIDE WALLS ARE NOT PARALLEL. IF THE
WALLS ARE ONLY SLIGHTLY ANGLED, THIS WILL BE GOOD FOR
ACOUSTICS AND STILL ALLOW FOR A LARGE PICTURE SIZE.

  • 30. FRONT SPEAKERS IF THERE ARE 5 FRONT SPEAKERS, LEFT EXTRA SHOULD BE PLACED MIDWAY BETWEEN CENTRE AND LEFT SPEAKER, AND CORRESPONDINGLY WITH RIGHT EXTRA AND RIGHT SPEAKERS, AT THE SAME HEIGHT AS THE OTHER FRONT SPEAKERS. THE CABINET SHOULD BE PLACED CLOSE TO THE PICTURE’S VERTICAL CENTRE LINE, BUT NOT ON THE AUDITORIUM CENTRE LINE, TO AVOID ACOUSTICAL PROBLEMS. USUALLY THE SUBWOOFERS ARE PLACED SLIGHTLY OFF-CENTRE, BELOW THE CENTRE SPEAKER. SUBWOOFERS MAY ALSO BE PLACED BELOW THE SCREEN FRAME. SUBWOOFERS
  • 31. •THE DISTANCE FROM THE LEFT OR RIGHT CORNER TO THE FIRST SPEAKER SHOULD BE IN THE RANGE OF 0.9-1.2m. •THE SPEAKERS SHOULD BE EVENLY DISTRIBUTED ON THE WALL WITH A DISTANCE BETWEEN EACH OF THEM (C-C) IN THE RANGE OF 1.0–2.5m (MAXIMUM 3m). SMALLER SPACING WILL PROVIDE BETTER DISTRIBUTION OF THE SOUND, ESPECIALLY IF THE LAST ROW IS CLOSE TO THE REAR WALL. •ALL REAR SURROUND SPEAKERS MUST BE MOUNTED AT THE SAME HEIGHT AND OFFER A GOOD COVERAGE OF THE AUDITORIUM. IF THE CEILING HEIGHT ALLOWS FOR IT, THE SPEAKERS SHOULD BE MOUNTED AT A HEIGHT OF 2.5-3M ABOVE THE FLOOR. IF NOT, THEY SHOULD BE MOUNTED RIGHT BELOW THE CEILING. REAR SURROUND SPEAKERS
  • 32. •SPEAKERS SHOULD BE PLACED ON THE SIDE WALLS •THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE SPEAKERS SHOULD BE BETWEEN 1.0 AND 2.5 (MAX. 3) METERS •WHEN PLACING THE SIDE SURROUND SPEAKERS, USE A SIMILAR SPACING AS THE ONE USED FOR THE REAR SPEAKERS. •IF THE SPACING COMES OUT DIFFERENT THAN THE REAR WALL, THE SPACING SHOULD BE SLIGHTLY SMALLER FOR THE REAR SPEAKERS. SIDE SURROUND SPEAKERS
  • 33. MOUNTING SURROUND SPEAKERS USUALLY THEY ARE MOUNTED ON BRACKETS WHERE THEY CAN BE TILTED IN THE DESIRED DIRECTION. TO MOUNT THE SURROUND SPEAKERS ON THE WALL, MAKE SURE THAT THE WALL CAN SAFELY CARRY THE WEIGHT OF THE BRACKET WITH THE SPEAKER. IT IS OFTEN NECESSARY TO STRENGTHEN THE WALLS WITH STUDDING (FOR EXAMPLE PLYWOOD). SMALL SPEAKERS WEIGH UP TO 10kg, WHILE LARGE ONES CAN WEIGH AS MUCH AS 30 kg OR MORE. CONFIRM THE WEIGHT AND MOUNTING SYSTEM WITH THE SOUND INSTALLER OR TAKE ACCOUNT FOR MORE HEAVY SPEAKERS.
  • 34. ANGLED SIDE WALLS IN MANY AUDITORIUMS, THE SIDE WALLS ARE NOT PARALLEL. IF THE WALLS ARE ONLY SLIGHTLY ANGLED, THIS WILL BE GOOD FOR ACOUSTICS AND STILL ALLOW FOR A LARGE PICTURE SIZE.
