Brief ART GALLERY
ART GALLERY- a room or series of rooms where
works of art are exhibited. An art gallery has a specific
focus, and is managed by a curator who specializes in
that type of art. Common focuses for art galleries are
art from a particular region, art in a certain medium, art
of a singular style, or art which has a specific focus,
such as political art.
Typically, all of the art in an art gallery is for sale.

cultural and arts complex and
education centre in New Delhi.
Founded in 1950, by Sundari K.
Shridharani, who was also its
Founding Director, Triveni, as it is
commonly referred, contains four
art galleries, a chamber theatre,
outdoor theatre, open air sculpture
gallery, besides this it runs its
various arts, music and dance
classes. It is situated on Tansen
Marg, between Mandi House
roundabout and Bengali Market.

studios are situated.

The centre is organized into a four
storey classroom block with a
canteen & shaded dining &
terrace.
A ground floor gallery back with a
shaded roof terrace above to the west.
Opposite he gallery is a covered stage
opening onto an outdoor garden theater
which is heart of the complex.
The building was built as one of the
pioneer cultural institutions for promoting
Indian ethos.

• Separate entries for gallery, exhibition hall and cafe.
• Architecture features with plaster facade as well as planter into wall pedestrian movement &
vehicular movement is done along the periphery of site.
• Triveni Kala Sangam built on rectangular which is internally divided into various
functions.

Experiences Noise Disturbance DUE TO NEARBY RAILWAY LINE.
Lack Of Wind Flow Through Open Air Theatre.
Not Enough Parking Space.
There is no parking space, vehicles have to parked main road & paring space
is not sufficient.
The two heavy massed blocks rise up to 4 storey & are a response to tight
program within the tight site.
4 storey building but not provided any lift. INFERENCES

Close to the Metro Stations and easily accessible by public transport.
In a prestige and good location of New Delhi.
A common platform for artists all over the India as it is locatedin prime
location of New Delhi,
THREATS
In sculpture studio there are less of natural
ventilation available leads to the poor indoor air
quality.

Gallery, Chandigarh, owes its
existence to the partition of the
country in August, 1947. It is
one of the premier institution of
India with a very rich collection
of Gandharan sculptures,
Pahari and Rajasthani
miniature paintings. Before the
partition in 1947, the collection
of art objects, paintings,
sculptures and decorative arts,
were housed in the Central
Museum, Lahore the then
capital of Punjab.

The building has three floors, connected by a pedestrian
ramp, a service staircase, and a freight elevator.
The ground floor accommodates the entrance lobby,
the collection storage, a conservation laboratory, a
temporary exhibition space, and an auditorium.
Daylight enters the building through a series of
openings, located just under the roof slab and
equipped with louvers designed to avoid
excessive illumination level on the artworks in
the galleries.
The first floor houses the permanent exhibition
galleries. The second floor accommodates staff
offices, meeting spaces, and a library.
58. Circulation space identifies area of a building that is used for
pedestrian travel, such as a hallway, stair way, and areas in a
room that leads to another room.

• The museum is built in composite masonry and
exposed concrete pilotis, with brick tile cladding.
• Its facades are calibrated through undulatory
glazing and slim aerators that bring in diffused
light and facilitate cross ventilation.
• An off-centre upper-level balcony punctuates the
southwest façade and serves as a viewing point
for the landscape setting of the complex itself, as
well as the Leisure Valley parkland beyond.

daylight has been used to maximum
advantage.
• Light is admitted from the North East and
South West sides through the sky light
openings louvered to prevent the direct
sun rays from penetrating into the
galleries.
• In addition to this, a system of top lighting
is provided along the entire length of the
building from North East to South West
• Handled with thought and imagination
this provides the right intensity of lighting
for the correct illumination of various
objects of art
