A Picture book written by 12 year old student as part of a literacy unit.

1. Mumbo Jumbo Serena Newton-Clark

2. Jumbo was the biggest elephant in the world.

3. When Jumbo was only one week old he was bigger than his mother, Mumbo

4. One day the circus came to town. When the keeper saw Jumbo, he was so desperate for a new act he took him away from Mumbo.

5. ABNORMAL ELEPHAHNT Jumbo travelled around with the circus as a part of their act.

6. ABNORMAL ELEPHAHNT Jumbo was scared of the people from the circus. They would beat him with a large stick.

7. ABNORMAL ELEPHAHNT Every night they locked him in a cage far too small for him. He had little room to move and the top of the cage sat on his back.

8. One night while everyone was asleep, Jumbo accidentally broke the cage. ABNORMAL ELEPHAHNT

9. Jumbo ran for his life trying not to stomp in casehe woke the keeper. ABNORMAL ELEPHAHNT

10. After what seemed like a long time Jumbo felt free.

11. As much as he enjoyed his freedom, Jumbo was homesick.

12. Unfortunately, the circus wasn’t near his home so while Jumbo was running by the wharf, he jumped onto a huge raft passing by.

13. For Jumbo, the raft was quite small. However he didn’t think this was so bad as it was strong enough to hold him.

14. After one week of seasickness, lack of sleep and food, Jumbo decided to get off the raft.

15. To Jumbo’s surprise, he had managed to get off the raft near his home. Jumbo ran to find Mumbo.

16. Soon Jumbo was stopped in his tracks by a stampede of hippy elephants.

17. He couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw what he saw.

18. Mumbo! “PEACE OUT!”

19. Mumbo had found herself a new family. A sad and lonely Jumbo slowly made his way home.

20. Many years later Jumbo was spotted with Mumbo, both with flowers in their ears.
