Multimodal texts combine two or more semiotic systems to convey meaning. There are five semiotic systems: linguistic, visual, audio, gestural, and spatial. Multimodal texts can be delivered via different media such as paper, digital formats, or live performances. Paper multimodal texts include books with images and layout. Digital texts combine written, spoken, visual, audio, gestural, and spatial modes. Live performances use gestural, spatial, spoken language, and audio modes.
