What is Multimodal Text?
is a combination of the prefix multi-meaning
“many” and modal-an adjective form of the
“mode”.
Semiotic systems is the use of signs and
symbols
What are the Five Semiotic Systems?
1.Linguistic
a.Vocabulary - words to convey a message
b.Metaphor - refers to technological figurative
language such as recycle bin, desktop, and window.
c.Structure - the organization of presentation
d.Various - modes refers to auditory, print, video,
graphics and animation.
2. Visual
a. Color used to express mood, emotion and cultural
significance
b. Perspective it conveys depth and dimension
c. Vectors refers to directional lines and focus attention
d. Foreground is giving power by positioning.
e. Background means creating the setting or the scene.
3. Audio
a. Voice can be electronic, own voice, or natural
speech.
b. Music may be selected or composed music
c. Sound Effects can also be selected or created
sounds.
4. Gestural includes:
a. Behavioral refers to gestures
b. Senses use in creating atmosphere
c. Body Control refers to positioning and movement
d. Emotion use to show feeling
e. Kinesics body movements to communicate.
5. Spatial
f. Ecosystem - interaction of all components
g. Geographical - layout and landscape
h. Architectural - construction, composition, and organization
What are the types of Multimodal Texts?
Multimodal texts can be delivered in various media or technologies.
It can be live, paper or digital electronic.
Examples of multimodal
1. A picture book. The textual and visual elements are arranged on
individual pages that contribute to an overall set of bound pages.
2. A webpage. The elements of sound effects, oral language, written
language, music and still moving images are combined.
3. A live ballet performance. The gesture, music, and space are the main
element.

Multimodal Text
1. Apply Visual Concepts
a) Space.
b) Color.
c) Shapes.
d) Lines.

2. Know your purpose.
In creating text with different features that add to the meaning of the
text, think of the purpose why it was created. It should convey to the
reader the aim of the text. Does it inform, entertain, or persuade?
3. Identify you audience.
Considering the type of audience, you are producing the text for,
gives an idea what specific language you will use. There certain
type of audience that require appropriate language for instance,
children are attracted for bigger fonts, different playful shapes and
documents that are text heavy are avoided.

communication helps you understand information better and effectively

films and other multimodal text that your teacher use in presenting you

going out of home to avoid getting infected. What activities did you do
