- 3. How Did We Get Here? 3 Course placement is determined by CCSD County/Middle School criteria consisting of various data points (Milestones results, ITBS results, CogAT results and classroom performance).
- 4. Rusk Middle School Expectations • Although these courses are taught in middle school, they are considered high school courses carrying Carnegie unit credit weight. Two semesters at the middle school level equate to one full unit of high school credit. • Classes for high school credit are more difficult than typical middle school courses. They require higher level thinking, reading and writing skills as well as more preparation time outside of class. 4

Rusk Middle School Expectations: • Any schedule changes from high school credit classes to the eighth grade curriculum will be honored no later than October 20, 2015, which is two school days following the posting of grades for first quarter marking period (nine weeks). • HS Credit Courses are a year long commitment. • When a schedule is changed, grades will be transferred to the new eighth grade class. 5

Attendance Requirements • The High School Attendance Policy reads, “Any student having seven or more excused, approved or unexcused absences in a semester will receive no credit for that class unless a waiver is granted by the High School Attendance Committee.” • Any student missing seven or more school days will complete an attendance waiver at the end of the semester in order to receive course credit. • Attendance in High School Credit Classes are taken per period. 6
- 7. End Of Course (EOC) Grading • Some high school courses require the administration of a Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) Georgia Milestones Assessment System End of Course (EOC) test. The second semester grade of each EOC course will be a combination of 20% of the EOC results and 80% of the grade earned in the course work. The first semester grade is comprised of course work and final semester exam. As noted previously, middle school courses for high school credit are automatically added to the high school transcript for all students. • Students must earn a 70 or higher final course grade to pass the course and earn credit toward graduation. 7

It is highly recommended that students have a low absenteeism rate.
