Introduction
The present project is a practice exercise where students will apply the concepts studied
in class analyzing an organization or firm, in this case the organization will be the firm
where each student works or Polytechnic University (Orlando-Miami Campuses) if the
student does not work.
Objective
Propose a new system or improve and existent system of an organization applying the
knowledge learned in the different courses of Business Administration Program.

Development
The development of the project requires the following analysis:
1. Current structure and behavioral view of the organization.
2. The structural characteristics cover a clear dividing of labor (managers and staff),
hierarchy, explicit rules and procedures, impartial judgments, technical
qualifications for positions, and maximum organizational efficiency.
3. Classify what type of organizational structure is It, and it differences respect other
types of organizations similar to. Unique characteristics of this organization
respect to other high educational center such as organizational type,
environments, goals, power, constituencies, function, leadership, tasks,
technology, and business process. It principal strengths and weakness.
4. Current information technology and current information systems. How these
resources are used (or not).
5. Experiences of other competitors which use information systems. How these ISs
could affect the organization.
6. Analysis of Information systems more implemented in this type of organizations
and which the team will recommend and why?
7. Develop a proposal redesigned the organization with information systems. The
role of a network and Internet in this proposal.
8. Information systems security and control.
9. Assessing the cost of the proposal.
10. Writing of the final project in MS Word. Parts of report: (Title, author and
professor, Index, Introduction, Goals, Development, Conclusion and
Recommendations, and References, Some diagrams and pictures could be
included. These must have numbers and titles.
11. PowerPoint presentation.
Deadline
The project will have six phases or cuts, which end with a report.
First phase (09/23/2013 - 09/29/2013): In this phase, the student must specify what will
be the organization or firm selected. It could be the organization where each student

1.1 About You
You are employed by the GMSA as independent construction procurement professional for this project.
1.2 Background
The Greater Manchester Strategic Alliance (GMSA) is a partnership of universities, colleges, work based learning providers and other stakeholders who collectively deliver a Lifelong Learning Network (LLN) and promotes the progression of vocational learners into Higher Education. GMSA have identified within their strategic plan for 2014 - 2019, the opportunities presented by recent government commitment to fund a significant increase in the delivery of Higher Apprenticeships. As a result, GMSA are consulting on the viability of a new "Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre" situated alongside the M62 Corridor in Greater Manchester. The centre will draw on the specialist skills of both the four Greater Manchester universities together with a series of local colleges

including those in Rochdale, Oldham and Bury together with leading business organisations located in the Greater Manchester area.
Important features of the development to note:

office accommodation and student support areas.

The Client requires the building to be carbon neutral. In addition, to illustrate both aspirations of both Central Government and the GMSA the facility should make a clear architectural statement and must be constructed to the highest aesthetic and qualitative standards. Value for money given the current economic climate is also a key consideration.
The budget to cover the total development cost, inclusive of construction works, external works, statutory and professional fees is estimated to be £71 million. The completion date is critical, as the building requires handover by August 2017 at the very latest, to accommodate the new academic year.
Title to the land is currently under negotiation. As the scheme forms part of the
‘Northern Power House’
vision, public funding (provided by the Department of Education) has been approved. Who will operate the facility on completion is yet to be decided.

This course explores successful project management for information technology projects. The System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) models are defined including the waterfall, spiral, incremental release, and prototyping models. Students will differentiate between these models and apply corresponding project management methods to identify critical checkpoints and reviews. Risk management, as applied to technology projects, is examined. Key project indicators are discussed, and students will explore defining measurement criteria for determining critical success factors on a project. The course defines the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to project activities and includes a tutorial for Microsoft Project. Emphasis is placed on the three dimensions of the information technology project constraints: scope, time, and cost. Students are recommended to have access to Microsoft Project. Course software requirements with the appropriate versions are listed under the Resources.

Course Scope
This course provides students with the foundations for effective project management in modern organizations. The course begins with a comprehensive introduction to the main components of the project management discipline. Specifically, a comprehensive and thorough examination of the five project management process groups will increase the knowledge and understanding to oversee critical projects. Students will understand the challenges of initiating a project and developing a critical planning strategy to begin the project management cycle. Students will apply the concepts to develop critical project management plans that are used in the business environment. The course culminates with development of a detailed final project including concepts such as scope management, risk management, resource management, and schedule development.
This course explores successful techniques for managing information technology projects.
