3. Introduction of the Electric Vehicles
• EVs first came into existence in the mid-19th century.
• In the 21st century, EVs saw a resurgence due to technological developments, and an increased
focus on renewable energy.
• A great deal of demand for electric vehicles developed and a small core of do-it-yourself (DIY)
engineers began sharing technical details for doing electric vehicle conversions.
 What is Electric Vehicles
• Electric vehicles (EV), those that use electric motors instead of gasoline motors, have become very
popular.
• Those who strive to protect the environment and go green love electric vehicles.

4. TypesofElectricVehicles
 There are three main types of electric vehicles (EVs), classed by the degree that electricity is
used as their energy source.
I. Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV)
- fully-electric vehicles with rechargeable batteries and no gasoline engine.
- Battery electric vehicles store electricity on board with high-capacity battery packs.
- i.e.– Tata Tigor electric car, Nissan Leaf and Hero Electric photon electric scooter.
II. Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV)
- Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles can recharge the battery through both regenerative
braking and “plugging in” to an external source of electrical power.
- i.e.- Toyota Prius and Hyundai loniq PHEV.
III. Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV)
- HEVs are powered by both gasoline and electricity.
- The electric energy is generated by the car’s own braking system to recharge the battery.
- i.e.- Toyota Camrey and Honda Civic Hybrid.
