3. Photovoltaic cell
• also called solar cell, is an electrical device
that converts the energy of light directly into
electricity by the photovoltaic effect.
Solar Cell (PV)
Light Electricity
4. Solar cell, Module and Array?
• A single solar PV cell generates very tiny amount that is
around 0.1 watt to 2 watts. it is not practical to use
such low power unit as building block of a system
• A solar module is normally series connected sufficient
number of solar cells. One solar module can be rated
from 3 watts to 300 watts.
• Several solar modules are connected in series/parallel
to increase the voltage/current ratings. Solar panel is a
group of several modules connected in series parallel
combination in a frame that can be mounted on a
structure. The combination of such panels are called as
an SOLAR ARRAY.
6. Advantage of Solar Energy
•Unlike conventional power, solar produces no
harmful emissions that hurt the environment.
•It's a clean.
•Consumes no fuel
7. DISADVANTAGES
• The main disadvantage of solar cell is the initial cost.
• Air pollution and weather can also have a large effect
on the efficiency of the cells.
• The silicon used is also very expensive and the solar
cells can only ever generate electricity during the
daytime.
